So I've found myself owning two Glock 19's.  I'm keeping the gen 4 for CCW and thinking of turning the gen 3 into a carbine.  I'd really love to find a Sub2k but they're like hen's teeth around here.  How is the Mech Tech unit?  I've seen mostly positive feedback on them but I don't see a whole lot posted about them here.  Any input?  Also if anyone has ordered recently how long was the wait?

I'd wait and find the Kel-Tec. I had the Mec Tec, and while it was a great conversion the weight was too much for what it is. I now have the gen 1 Kel Tec and its a great little carbine.

I have one for a glock frame I got by itself. I like it. Sure, it's heavy, but that's what gyms are for. I have one in 40 with a primary arms classic red dot on top and it is pretty fun.

The bolt group is heavy, so you need to run some decently stout stuff through. Mine runs better at around 195-200 power factor. That's a 200gr bullet travelling at 1000fps or 180gr bullet going 1100fps. The upside is the weight makes the recoil very light.

The length of the unit puts a stock pretty far back. On a typical 6 position stock, I usually pull it out to the second hole looking muzzle to butt.

Works with Glock frames, so it takes Glock mags. I have a few 15rd and 22rd factory mags and also a couple of SGM 31rd mags. They all run in the conversion.

No last shot hold open, unfortunately. It's a little tedious to take apart for a good cleaning, but is easy to put back together.

If you already have a glock and a bunch of glock mags, I would recommend it. If you're starting out with a blank PCC slate, there might be better options. I was looking at the Kel-Tec and the JR Carbine and decided on the mechtech because I already had a frame and a Glock 22 with a bunch of mags.

Thanks for the advice.  I'm leaning towards ordering one of these.  I knew they were heavy bastards but I can deal with the weight.  Otherwise they seem very solid/well made.  Probably more so than a keltec.  Now to just wait for the tax return.

I have one for my G17, yes they are a tad heavy. When I first bought it I had issues with it, what they were I cant remember because it was years ago. Anyway, I got ahold of Mechtech, sent it in and they fixed whatever ailed it and shipped it right back. The thing has ran fine ever sense.

There is a brake on the barrel (Can't see it in the pic) and it is a nice little doll with the stock slide all the way up.. If one were inclined it would disappear real nice under a jacket while nestled in your armpit.

I've been meaning to dig it out and do a bit of shooting with it, as its been too long..

It does seem like one of the few ways to get a long bbl on a Glock or Springfield frame.  No need to install the stock, chop bbl to 10-12" or so, have a long bbl 10mm or summat.

"Heavy" is the chief complaint, but they are reliable and accurate enough to make it worth it for most folks who have owned one.  Good products, IMHO, if one is so inclined.

I got a 10mm mechtech after trying my buddy's Sub2000 in 9mm. The Sub2000 had a heavy trigger and malfunctioned on every mag we put through it.

My mechtech is heavy but runs like a champ and that is what counts for me. Also with a P/A RDS on it the accuracy is very good.
