| Hey guys, I have an opportunity to pick up a Calico Liberty 1 a my local shop for a decent price, anybody have any input? Are they worth the $ or is there something better out there? Is anyone making a 9mm MP5 knock off thats worth a lick and wont break the bank? |
| I had an original calico 9mm carbine. Didn't think much of it. Stock would autoretract while firing because the detent hole wore out. Never could go through a drum without a half dozen jams. Interesting idea but in my opinion you'd be better off with one of the soumi parts guns and a bunch of drums. Would probably work better. |

I actually have had a few of these...do not currently own one.
I had the early .22 pistol, .22 carbine, 9mm pistol and 9mm carbine......they would all run pretty good if using quality ammo, and also if you wound the mag the correct times. The 9mms seamed to run better then the .22s. I did find that certain mags liked to be would a little under factory reccomendation on the rimfires. Sold all of them over time. About 2 years ago, I ended up getting the more updated versions of the 9mm carbine, 9mm pistol and the .22 carbine. There all ran better then my original ones from back in the 90s. Maybe it was just that I knew more about guns, now used better ammo, or something was slightly tweaked with the designs. They were fun. I wouldn't mine having the 9mm again.....I sold them off as well, just because I get bored and thingk I need to rotate stock:) i did some heavy mods to my carbines that made them more user friendly in my mind.....now they sell some of them items as factory accesories. I kinda miss the 9mm

| I traded for a used .22 carbine several months ago from my local gun dealer, not sure how old it was as it had some rough spots on the finish but barrel looked very good. Unfortunately when I got it home the main spring in the mag had been overtightened and was just a wad of steel wire. I got discouraged and just took it as an omen and my gun dealer took it back for full credit. It's a neat concept but after doing more reading I think I made the right call. Do your homework and make sure you get one that's not been abused. Looks like ther was still a good selection of replacement parts online. |
| I have a couple, and they are decent shooting guns. The big problem is the ergonomics and sights. There is no comfortable way to shoulder the gun and look through the sights, especially with the 100rnd drum on. You also have to be careful where you grip the HG; get too close to the receiver and you're likely to have hot brass hit your arm. This is one gun where a laser might actually be a better sighting method than the sights. |
