I would like to get a pistol caliber carbine. I am interested in the 'High Point TS' carbine in .45 Auto.
I load both 9mm Luger and .45 auto but .45 is my primary handloaded round so I figure the carbine will be chambered in .45 auto. At the range where I shoot I have seen 3 shooters with HP carbines. All three guys are happy with their High Point Carbines. In an ad I see HP has "Redesigned" their TS carbines. Does anyone here have an older or a new redesigned High Point carbine in any caliber? Do you shoot it alot? Do you like it? Any Do's & Dont's, Pros & Cons, general info, failures or your personal experience with a High Point carbine? Thanks for your time. VonBarky |

I have a 9mm. I bought it in 1999.
Every so often, I hear in GD about how ugly, and lame, and ineffective they are. And then I go shoot through another few hundred rounds, weeping the whole time. But it's not all peaches and cream: One of the magazines broke once. The store I bought from immediately replaced it- it's got a lifetime warranty as well as the gun. |

I have an older one in 9mm and there is only one thing I can say about it.......
10rds is meh and mags aren't dirt cheap BUT, it goes bang every time, I've never seen anything it wouldn't eat and it hits where I'm aiming it out to about 80 yds or so. It's the most fun I have with 9mm. |

One downside is a 9 rd mag in 45acp. But it fits the JHP, too. Other than that you will wonder why they are as cheap as they are and why the gun snobs hate them so much. I've put about 300 rds through the carbine and 200 rds through the pistol. Both are very accurate, both are heavy. The only issue was with the pistol; it hated Blazer aluminum hulled 230 gr ammo. My XD did, too. I had 200 rds of Blazer alum and now it's gone. The carbine ate it fine and performed flawless. I've shot with good results the following ammo:, Blazer brass, Wolf steel, WWB, & Tula steel, all without incident. I shoot real good out to 25 yds with the pistol and all rounds falling onto an 8.5 X 11 target. The carbine is good out to a 100 yds and all rounds landing on an 11 x 17 target. You know it would be BS if I said that was every round hitting paper. I have shot several mags at a steel 2' diameter gong that is at a 100 yds. I keep the pistol, carbine, 6 loaded mags in my GHB in the trunk. The pistol is blocky and heavy. It stands kind of tall in the hand, compared to my XD. I think the slide is pretty thick and tall. It's not a concealed carry piece. The carbine points very natural and feels good when shouldered. Very little recoil except for a bump. This carbine can not be cleaned as thoroughly as otter guns. I keep a bore snake, CLP, Hoppes, and spray oil in my range bag and GHB. I have to confess, I have not cleaned either since taking them out of the box in May, I have sprayed the bolts of each while shooting.
If you get one and hate it, you won't take a bad beating on resale. ETA: Cleaned it today and it's a piece of cake. I didn't know what I was talking about. |

I have one of the new .45 carbines. I named it "Bertha". She is chuncky in the hands and heavy but all of my buddies when they see her say. "That is cool".
I have not spent much range time with it though. Carried it out yesterday but spent all of my time with the Bushey. When I first carried it out, I could not drift the front sight enough to bring it on target. So I sent it off to the factory. In a very quick turn around amount of time it was back with a free mag and a target that was the end result of their making it right. I had several 2 liter bottles filled up waiting and ready. Got it out of the box, loaded a mag, stepped in the back yard and found it dead on target. I agree with others that wonder why the carbines are hated so much. You can't argue with the price and everyone that I know of that has one states that they go bang everytime and will eat most anything. I do not regreat the purchase. |
| I had one of the first of the "redesigned" 995TS carbines and it turned out to be a lemon. It would FTF and FTE using various different types of ammunition and occasionally the bolt would "jam" in the closed position and would require hitting with a rubber mallet to break free. I sent it back to Hi-Point twice and they replaced it with a whole new rifle that lived up to the reputation I had read about on the second trip back. Great customer service, they even threw in a handful of free mags and other accessories for the experience I had. |

I agree with others that wonder why the carbines are hated so much. Some people just can't understand that "inexpensive" does not necessarily mean "cheap". And I'll admit I used to be that way too. Mine has proven to be just as accurate and reliable as my Ruger PC9 that cost twice as much, so I think differently now. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
| glad to hear they go bang everytime, I bought a 45 pistol from them and was completely let down, FTF, FTE, slide locked back with a half full mag, you name it. I sent it back to them and they replaced it, next one would FTF and FTE 3 or 4 times per mag (9 rounds), sent that one back, and now have one that's good to go. Great customer service from the company, no doubt about that, but i doubt i would go through the pain of having to send it back multiple times, but hey, i got 4 free spare mags out of it. NOTE: They were also nice enough to refund the shipping I paid for the second return. |

(Mine does) I agree with the customer service. Great! |
I had a thread about this last week and the general consensus is that they are great shooters and accurate for a 200 or less gun. Later I will see if I can post the link as for some reasons, the thread search feature is currently unable to find any of the threads I have created.

| My wife and I were in a gun shop about 2 years ago and she saw a 995, she thought it was so ugly it was cute and wanted it, we bought it and were so impressed that when the newer 995TS came out I bought one for myself. Both of them are accurate and fun to shoot, we have red dot sights mounted on them and at 50 yards have no problem keeping them all in the black. I have some other rifles that cost considerably more that are not as accurate or as much fun to shoot as the Hi-Points. Both of ours are 9mm but if I come across the 45 version I will definitely buy one. I also bought the C9 9mm pistol, its big and ugly but at 10 yards shoots nice groups. All three of them will digest any kind of 9mm we have tried not something I can say about my other 9mm handguns. |

I had a pre-TS 4095. It worked, most of the time, for about three thousand rounds. Then, a finish they'd sprayed onto every internal part started flaking off of the feed ramp and hollowpoints would start hanging up. A regular customer of mine told me he just automatically removes that finish whenever he buys a Hi-Point.
In addition, one screw for the rear sight assembly was cross-threaded, but my brother had the tools to correct that. Also, and I'm hoping from comments earlier on that they've fixed this, the first time I, and another Hi-Point carbine owner, took ours apart to clean them, small parts involved with the trigger scattered themselves helpfully all over the floor. Having to use that chart in the manual that shows what parts are what as our guide, we got those parts back in. It only happened the first time, though. I wound up selling mine and replacing with a Beretta Storm that I got for a song. Far far happier now. All this said, when the 4595 came out, I wasn't dissatisfied with the 4095 enough that I wasn't tempted to get the 4595. I got an Olympic Ar-15 upper in .45 ACP instead. It was bad enough that I regretted not getting the Hi-Point. We'll see how the Mech Tech CCU works (ordered it, waiting on it). |
