Thoughts on these.I have a P95 that really
works well for me and my budget and I was thinking
about getting one of these for the HD role.

It is heavy for what it is and the trigger is horrid.

That said, I love mine. Reliable as hell (with quality mags), quite accurate out to 100yds, and it can double as war club when the ammo runs out.

Eta: do you have a line on one? The ones I've seen lately are pretty pricey since they are no longer in production. For the $$, I would get a Beretta Storm.

Ditto.

FWIW, if I found another in this condition for $400 or less I wouldn't hesitate.

I was interested in the Ruger and had the chance to pick up one a couple of times. Passed on it. Got a Beretta Storm instead. The Storm is shorter, lighter and easier to  handle, has lots of support and aftermarket add-ons. I also picked up a Marlin 9 Camp rifle along the way. Less $$ than the Ruger and a simpler design with a better trigger.  But if you love the Ruger, keep looking as they do turn up from time to time.

I own all three and the Storm is my favorite of the bunch to shoot, no question... but if I had to choose one to depend on for long-term durability (esp. with hotter loads), it would be Ruger.  YMMV.

And that is something to really consider especially since you want it for HD. If you want to use optics, lights, etc it is much easier to do with the Beretta.

Like I said, I love my Ruger and it does serve as an HD option for me. But there is near zero aftermarket support for it. Even the buttstock mag pouch in my pic is impossible to find nowadays (don't get me started, Hardshell!!!).

If you can find a Ruger for around $400, I heartily recommend it. However, the ones I've seen lately are going for $600+ used. That's in the Beretta's price range. Just something to consider.

Yep, can't argue there.

These are built like a tank and have big parts to clean for you guys with dick fingers.   When you take it apart it is easy to see that these probably cost Ruger alot to make.   The trigger on mine is surprisingly good.   It has a 2-stage type feel to it with a very short and positive reset.   I bought cheap no-name 20 and 30 round magazines at a gun show for $17 each and they have been 100%.

I hate you.
I have a number of ProMag and USA 20s and 30s, but they are all crap.

Only 20rd mags I've encountered that have worked are MecGars. And I got those during the height of the AWB, so they were $$.

I bought one new about 10 years back.

About 5 minutes after I got home and pulled the bolt back a couple of times
something screwed up inside and it endedup back to ruger for repair.

After it ran well but the trigger was so heavy I couldn't hit crap with it.

I spent some money with my local gunsmith on the trigger but it was still pretty bad

Traded for a Glock 19- ok well

They are fine, accurate guns, and if you have the P95 already, a perfect fit, because of the magazine interchangeability.  The problem is, finding one at a nice price.  The .40S&W models, seem to be a bit cheaper, because there seems to be more police turn-ins, in this caliber.

So far I've seen them go for about $400-$500
Which is quite a bit cheaper than the Storm.
I'm hoping that with all the new stuff that Ruger
has been coming out with that they will reserect
the PC9.
It seems like the only thing that they don't have on
the market yet is semi-auto PCC.

I do believe that falls into my parameters to "heartily recommend"!

Just keep in mind its limitations as far as accessories go since you're planning for an HD gun.

I've been hoping that now they have a 1911, they would come out with a PC45 that uses 1911 mags.

I would bet if they ever did come back out with a PC9/40, they would use SR series mags.

I've got one in .40.  Built like a brick shithouse.  I'm not sure why all the nut-busting about the trigger.  You guys shooting competition with these things?  For what it is the trigger on mine is fine.  If you find one in your price range, proceed with confidence.

You do have to admit the trigger is rather heavy. Everyone that has shot mine has double checked to see if the safety was on.

I do like Rokchukrslave's view of it, though.
