Just picked up a HP 995 at the local Cabela's for $110, NRA VG+. came with 3 mags, scope mount, orig. box, instuctions, sling, tool, I mounted a cheap Tasco Red dot and went to the range . It was single digit temps with a bit of wind. gun functioned flawlessly with 3 different brands of Ammo - Wolf 115, Fed NT and 125RN cast/ AA#2, 4.4gr. At 50 yards most of my groups shooting over a block of wood from a sitting position were around 4" or so, I was hitting 6" steel plates at 50 yards offhand about 90% of the time. Is this normal grouping /Accuracy for one of these? I noticed the ridge on the top of the stock stung my face , maybe it was just the cold. I am curious if 147 gr subsonic would group better or should I stick to the light loads? Opinions and comments appreciated

I find them to be surprisingly accurate and reliable given the price.

I bought one of these from a friend about 10 years ago for $75. Last winter I put the ATI stock on it and had all the metal powdercoated flat black, funny thing is I haven't shot it for years
It is a fun little gun and always functiond perfectly.

Does yours have the new style stock?  I can't believe they managed to make it even uglier, more functional, but uglier IMHO

I can't answer your ammo question but I can tell you hi-point customer service is awesome. I bought the gun secondhand over 10 years ago and didn't get the top rail with it. When I installed the ATI stock I wanted to put a red dot on it so I started looking for a rail online. I was just about to buy one online for $13, but i ran across some posts regarding their customer service. I called and flat out told them I bought the gun secondhand years ago, they said no problem and sent me a new rail, screws, and a chamber flag same day at no charge.

There's a guy on ebay who sells custom machined parts (triggers, charging handles, etc) if you're interested

Mine has the old style stock, I plan to keep it that way for the time being

The biggest drawback to these is the design makes it nearly impossible to have any type of high capacity mag. Promag has a 15 rounder but the feed reliability is hit or miss. I was thinking about the .45 version but decided against it for this reason..

Wow they were absolutely SHAMELESS about ripping off the Beretta Storm.

That was my experience as well.

Eventually, I just couldn't get past the look (this was before the ATI stock was on the market) or the low-capacity and I traded it away... but it never had a hiccup of any kind.

Someone on a very tight budget with little or no handgun training/experience could do much worse than one of these for basic HD duty, IMHO, and I have said so before.

My thoughts exactly, it is a much easier HD weapon to become accurate with than a handgun. PS, I  Shoot 50 rounds a week thru my .45 for the last 10 years and still can't hit the same 6" plates at 50 yards as consistantly

Had a HI Point 9mm for some years. It has to be one of the biggest bargains in firearms. I put the ATI stock on mine as that was the only option at the time. The gun was 100% reliable and shot well. I liked it so much, being a PCC that I bought a Beretta CX4 when they came out. I was disappointed in the Beretta. Sure, it was made nicer, but for three times the price it should have been. The CX4 had a poor trigger compared to the Hi Point. The HP shot better, maybe partly because of the trigger.

Got into AR's and sold the HP to make room in the safe. Miss that rifle...thought of getting another just for the heck of it. But, since I have four other 9mm rifles I hold back. But, to those who have no pistol caliber carbines....the HP is GTG and price right. No frills, but it shoots.

Well they are ATI not Hipoint. almost the only workable stock option for these I have a standard old school 995 and I have always wanted a 9mm ar but money is a problem. I hope someday they do have high cap mags for these guns. I hope someday.

IMHO, HP completely missed the boat by designing it to use a proprietary single-stack magazine. They could have designed it (either originally or during the more recent updates) around any one of a number of existing hi-cap platforms and I suspect their carbines would have sold much better. In fact, had they designed it to accept a hi-cap pistol mag platform in common use but for which a carbine is not currently produced (say XD9/40, BHP, Taurus PT92/99, etc.) there could have been just that much more demand. JMHO, of course.

What is the approximate the value of a High Point 995 (old Style)? I have put 100 though it, and it had sat for years at a relatives house with no use. I put a new ATI replacement stock on it, and added a TRUGLO Red Dot sight to it. It has 2 mags also. I have all the original parts, pieces, manuals, and box as well. Any help would be great. I'm thinking of selling it b/c I just don't need it.
