With Steve's Gunz the sky is the limit on what enhancements you get. Mine was $1600. It runs fine.
Rossis build quality out of the box is poor. Steve makes his living addressing that. If you want a 454 you'd better hurry, they quit making them. Whatever is in the pipeline is all there is ever going to be. The heavy cartridge and poor build quality is not a good combination (which is why they are discontinued). Without Steve I wouldn't have one. |

I guess I've been lucky on my rossi/puma's. Have three and have been happy with all of them.
kcub - a lot of guys like the heavy bullets in .454, but my .454 rossi loves the winchester 260 partition. I don't recall the muzzle velocity of that load off the top of my head, but I remember that the hornady 240 runs 2430fps; or more than 3,100 ft/lbs of muzzle energy. Basically putting out about the muzzle energy of a .30-06, with a bullet nearly 50% bigger. There's not an animal on the continent that a carbine in this caliber can't very easily take. Fwiw, one issue you may run into is if you're going to put a sling on it. The fact that the magazine tube is holding fat .45-caliber rounds to begin with, combined with its double-wall construction, made it hard to find a sling swivel to fit. After measuring and checking manufacturer's charts in my searching, it turned out that a sling swivel meant for a 16-gauge shotgun fit perfectly. |

What I had with me was 300 grain HSM and Winchester 260 grain, both shot really low and a bit to the right. I'll have to nudge the front sight a little but the rear peep is nearly topped out. I talked to Steve and he said some Rossi's have bent barrels and perhaps mine is bent low and we may need a shorter front sight. Perhaps I'm not lucky but it happens often enough that Steve mentioned it.
I had not thought about a sling; thanks, good to know. Another cheesy thing is the mag tube doesn't want to unscrew. I cut my thumb up using the loading gate. |
