My dad has this Winchester 1894 in 44 mag and on the receiver there are a few specks of rust. Nothing I have tried can get it off. (Big 45 metal cleaner, copper penny) It is a post 64 Winchester. Any ideas on how to remove this rust?

bronze wool + penetrating oil

I use penetrating oil and 0000 steel wool (penny works too, but clumsier)

never use steel. use a softer metal - ie bronze

3M scotchbrite pad and oil.

Is it really rust or is it the bronze color that shows through when the finish wears off a post '64  Win. '94?

Suggest a penetrating oil.

^^ this is possible.  Had the same issue with my 1984 made one.  Thought it was rust specks, nope, just lack of blue.  Internet says that is common.
