I need to know how far forward of the buttplate would be a good distance to mount the rear swivel?
Thanks. |

It is a Winchester...a Model 94 made in 1899...new-in-the-box. Found it at a garage sale for $87.00. LOL
Seriously, it is a Winchester but it is post-64; probably about 1980. Any true collector value is gone as I had to refinish the receiver. It suffered from the 'purple-tint' malady that seem to befall some of the later rifles. I do appreciate your concern and if it were a rare bird I'd not even think of adulterating it. My intent is to make it a psuedo-Scout rifle. I'm either going to add a peep-sight or some low-power optics to it, a sling, and an elastic cuff on the stock to hold some spare ammo. I had some photos of it and when I get done maybe I'll dig them up and post them. |

I have posted what I did before.
I bought an Uncle Mike's detachable swivel kit for a 94, put the front swivel on and took a piece of leather and cut it to the shape of the butplate leaving a 1" wide and about a 1.5" long tab on the side. I folded the tab over twice and glued and riveted to form a loop to put the rear swivel. I reattached the butplate with the leather under it and now have a sling with no holes in my stock. |
