Did a quick circuit of the tables of this weekend's gun show. Nothing much of interest to me other than a nice Savage 1899 in 250/3000. The price was fairly reasonable considering that while it was made in 1950 the previous owner had mounted a Burris variable scope. That didn't bother me as I'm a shooter not a serious collector.  Looked it over good and both the wood and the bore were in great shape. Thought seriously about digging out the check book right then and there since I had been keeping my eye peeled for one for some time. Decided to wait and think it over. My dad's first rifle was a Savage 99 in the same caliber but he had sold it while I was away at college so I never had a chance to inherit it.

Kept on shopping and, after getting a couple of rows over, I happened to look back only to see an acquaintance pick it up, check it out and buy it. "Well, that took care of that," I thought to myself. "Trumped again by indecision."

The next morning, while wandering the aisles again, I ran into the buyer and I teasingly said to him, "You bought my rifle!" In the ensuing conversation he explained that he taken it home and compared it to a light weight, take-down he had and couldn't decide which one he liked best, so, he brought them both back and put them up for sale. He would keep the one that didn't sell.

This seemed to me to be a sign that I was destined to own the 250, so I bought it for the original asking price with no dickering. Now to find some dies and bullets.

Nice...  I've had the urge to get a 99 myself recently.
