| I have a marlin 30-30 that I want to turn into a scout rifle. I was looking at the XS mount but my buddy had a bad experience with that mount. I asked my local shop guys and my gunsmith and they all said they have had quite alot of people bring in rifles with those mounts. apparently, the mount doesnt hold due to recoil and they basically become useless after a short while. Anybody know of another way to scout mount a scope on a lever gun? or have a solution to fix the XS system? thanks |
| weaver mount looks just like the XS. I had the stud snap on my XS mount and i am a little scared to use it again im thinking of drilling and tapping into the barrel to elimnate the floating stud. XS replaced the stud free of charge but thats not going to help if it snaps on a shot at an animal. |

There is the XS lever rail, as well, that bolts into the whole receiver and would allow for scout or standard scope mounting and looks to be a more solid mounting option than the scout rail. Do you have a part # for this item? Here's a link to the XS site. The page has the lever rail system right above the scout rail.XS web page |
| The mount by Wild West Guns is great. It has to be drilled and tapped into your barrel but is designed to keep the stock buckhorn sight in tact and useable. With Warne Quick Detach rings, you can throw the scope on in about 10 seconds, or take it off as quickly to use the iron sights. Win win set up. I run it in both of my custom Marlin takedowns in .450 Marlin, and .45-70. I run XS ghost rings on mine for irons. |
