Dad had a regular lever one.
Was a good short range deer gun.
He loaned it to a guy then the pos sold it.

Dad misses that rifle.

I wish Savage had made a last year run of "99s all in 250 Savage.  They'd have sold all they could make.  You've got a fine gun OP.  I would advise you not to take the action apart to clean it, getting it back together can be a pain.

I know of a takedown 22 Highpower for sale. The dealer has hd it for years. I may make him an offer at the next gun show.

There was a consignment rifle for sale here a few years back.  Made around 1918 or so, and the gun looked like new.  The owner had second thoughts and took it home; I had gone back to get the gun.

I've always wanted a 250-3000 in a bolt gun.  I like the Savage 99's, but not enough that I can warm up to buying one.  Maybe if I used one for a few days I would change my mind.

I thought about getting a .308 99 for a brush gun for deer and then found a pre-64 '94 at a yard sale for the right price

Years ago Winchester made a limited run of the Model 70 carbines in this caliber, one of their "Classics".  I managed to get one and loved the rifle but shot like crap. I had to have the throat of the chamber lengthened and the receiver trued up and bedded/floated.   After that it shot like a dream and killed deer like a bolt of lightning.  Killed the biggest whitetail I ever shot with it.   I let a buddy of mine talk me out of it for his kid.  The kid's now a man full grown and and has killed over a dozen deer with it, one a 350yd plus shot, so it's not just a short range cartridge.  He wouldn't trade that gun for anything, I know I've tried.

I'd love to have a Savage 99 carbine with a 20" barrel in this caliber.

Just FYI, the name .250-3000 was given to the cartridge because it was the first cartridge to break the 3000fps mark.  With an 85/87gr bullet.

I thought the same thing,

found one in a pawn shop with the tag marked "284 win", took a look at it, stocks had been refinished but it was in decent shape, and it wasn't a 284, it was a 308win, asked the counter dude what the cash price was, walked out with the rifle for $125.

it shoots great.

Years ago I had a 250 Savage 99A and i foolishly let the rifle go.
I have been looking for a replacement and they are getting hard to find and expensive when you do come across one.

One of the very best calibers in the Savage 99 lineup.
