I have a Winchester 94 Trapper in 44 mag that I am wanting to give the black rifle treatment. Unfortunately, it is in dire need of a new barrel. The factory barrel is a piece of crap. There is an extremely rough spot half way down the barrel that has to be seen to be believed. I like to do as much of my gunsmithing as possible but obviously this is beyond my abilities and level of shop equipment. Can anyone out there recommend a smith to rebarrel and fit ghost ring and post sights? Also any recommendations as to barrel brands?

What part of OK are you from?  I've got a good smith just north of Shawnee, but he's loaded up and it will be a slow turn-around.

I am in Weatherford but my wife and I have a place in OKC that we are at regularly and could make the hop. What kind of turnaround?

If you consider your barrel a total write off , might try fire lapping it ?

I already tried that. I have had good luck with it on some others but this one is really bad. It made made no real improvement. I would really apreciate any recomendations that anyone could make about a good lever smith. There are lots of bolt action guys out there but most donk do much, if anything with lever guns.

These guys do great work and they are definitely familiar with lever guns. I know they can re-barrel it.

Sorry I didn't see this until now.  I'd say at least 3-4 months, he stays swamped.  PM me for his phone number.
