Apologies if this should be in a reloading section but has anyone tried this? I got an alert a few months ago that Midway had the bullets finally and I got some. I would like to begin reloading them but I heard something about Hornady's methods being secret or some damn thing like that. Anyone know how to point me in the right direction? I love the factory ammo, would like to see about reloading my 30-30.

I think that the Flextip bullets are completely un-secret but that the LeveRevolution ammunition uses a powder (mix?) that Hornady is keeping for themselves.

Yes, most of the advantage actually comes form the higher velocity due to their proprietary powder formulation.

Consider that the FTX bullet is basically a spire point profile, and not quite a true spitzer.

I don't have any data from Hornady on what the difference would be between a 325gr FTX and a conventional soft point launched with the same powder load, so  I will use their data for the Spire point and flat point .405 Winchester loads as a rough guide for the difference the spire point makes:

.405 Win, 300 gr @ 2200 f/s=3224ft-lbs
At 300 yards, the difference in drop is 1.7" (-30.2 vs -31.9) and velocity/energy is 70f/s & 124ft-lb (1370/1250 vs 1300/1126)
It's not a huge difference.

Interestingly enough, I can't 't find any.45-70 cheaper than I can get the LeverEvolution fodder, so that's what I'm stocked up on right now, and it just happens to be the hardest hitting standard pressure commercial stuff you can get.

So basically I could reload this as a spitzer bullet but the Leverevolution "secret" isn't public yet. Great.... Ah well, the rubber tipped bullets do allow my 94 to use a spitzer bullet. So... where would a guy go to get reloading data for those bullets? I will have to look on the box themselves but I wonder if Hornady has a website with that info.

I just wish I could find some somewhere
. The one place I did find that had it was gouging beyond belief and I could bring myself to pay what they are asking. I even grabbed a box and went to the counter...

"is this a misprint"?

"Nope, thats correct"

"44.00 for 20rnds of .30-30.......there is sucker born every minute, but I am not one of them"

Handed him the box back and walked out the door.

If you're talking about loaded ammo:
http://www.natchezss.com/product.cfm?contentID=productDetail&prodID=HO82730&src=tpCtgAm

In stock, $19.38  I always go to Natchezss first these days.

Reloading guys, reloading.... Because of the price I bought the bullets but can't find any reloading data. I'm still waiting for the Hornady website to answer my email about this.

Barring information from Hornady, I would find data for bullets of the same weight and start 10% down from the maximum charge weight.

Cool, thanks. That was kind of what i thought would be the answer. I still haven't gotten a reply from Hornady....

You could always use the internet.

1) Go to http://www.bing.com/ Google or Yahoo! might work though.
2) Type the following words: reloading data Hornady bullets
3) Click the search button
4) When the search results come up, click the link that says Hornady Manufacturing Inc.
5) The page that comes up will have a link that says FTX Load Notes . Click that link.
6) That will lead you to this link: 30-30 Win 160gr FTX

Thanks. For something like that, I figured going right to Hornady would be the answer. That'll work though, thanks!

You were acting like there was no information available from Hornady, so I did a search at Bing. Imagine my surprise when the very first result was Hornady's very own website and that the data is quite obviously accessible with a clearly labeled linky right there on their homepage. How did you manage to go right to Hornady without actually looking at their homepage?

Wonder if they will ever get the .44 and .38 caliber bullets on the market.

Don't forget the bullets for .45 Colt.

If they follow past performance, once they've built up sufficient stocks of ammo, they'll release the bullets.

The Hornady site is the last place I would look for load data now since they took their data for their other bullets down.

My guess is that the FTX data is on the site because not having any load data until they come out with the next edition of their reloading manual would greatly hurt bullet sales.

ETA: At any rate, linky added to my linky list in the linky thread.
