| I have a fairly remote house at my ranch in east Texas. I do not have phone service, disconnected it years ago because it rarely worked, I do have satellite internet. I am looking for camera (s) that I can mount either inside or outside that I can access with my cell phone or computer from home. I have looked on the internet and most of what I have read might as well be in Egyptian. I do not want a monitored system, I have ADT at home and its always broke, or a monthly bill. Is there such a camera system available? |

His threads and expertise have my home sending me text messages and emails with photos and video several times per day or when movement triggers the cycle. As soon as I get a static ip or figure out DuckDNS, I'll have remote control. |

The cabin has a 40' covered porch on both north and south exposure. The east and west exposure basically sees nothing that the north and south will see. What I hope to be able to do is to connect from home through my apple desktop or I Phone a live view of what the camera is pointed at. I have game cameras set up, but the animals, cattle and horses, load up the chip each week (hundreds of pics). I have had the place since 88', never had a problem and don't expect one, but it would be nice from time to time to see what is going on. Cost, whatever it takes to get a functional system. |

Can you post a google-map overhead of the site? Just edit it for OPSEC (or you can PM it to me). How many cameras are you thinking? Because I think a Hikvision system-in-a-box would work just fine for you. |

| I'll update this later in the week. Bought a Arlo system, with server and 2 cameras. Service came with cable to router, cameras are wireless and can go outside. We installed it in minutes and so far the work great. It sent us a hundred motion alarms while we were there until we figured out how to disarm it. It has notion detection, night vision and record features for 7 days. So far the pictures are fairly clear and I can make out one of my deer feeders thats 150 yds from the house. More later. Battery life may be an issue, we'll see. |

Not to hijack, but I also have crappie satellite Internet. Will that be a problem trying to monitor my system from another location? Yes, it will be an issue. I was in a similar situation years ago. I had satellite Internet. The speeds will not support what you are trying to do. I now live at that remote house and still have issues. We have no local police dept., sheriff only, and he is 45 minutes away, in a cruiser with lights on. Nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile away and he is almost deaf. ADT or any monitored system is useless. No one will hear it, and it takes too long to get a law enforcement response. I now have good DSL, so I could get pictures of a guy wearing a face mask emptying out my house. The chances of a successful prosecution or property recovery-nil. The sheriff makes good money off that recovered property at auction. The beautiful rural setting hides a dark underbelly-this is the meth capital of the US. |
