I have an electronic GunVault safe that I keep my bedside pistol in right now, but it sometimes doesn't want to open, so I need something more reliable.  I would prefer something with a 3 digit combo that is quick to open.  I just need to keep the kids out, so not concerned about theft, as the pistol is locked in the main safe when we are gone for any long period.

Thanks

Sorry cannot help with one with a lock yet I do have one that fits under the mattress that has holster one it. I don't have kids so I do not need a safe or anything like it to keep anyone but me from using it. I know there are some out that that you can mount to an end table that have some sort of lock/code to open. I know that the baby Cabela's and Gander here have them.

Not a three digit code safe, but I've been using a Hornady Rapid Safe (model 2700) for the last few months that seems to work well.  Obviously not theft proof but the kids can't get in.

The safe comes with a few options to open it, but I use a RFID sticker chip that sits between my cell phone and the phone case.  All I have to do is hold my phone near the safe and it pops open.  Seems to be working well for me!  Kid is not allowed to mess with my phone since its a work phone, so as long as I have control of my phone, they are not getting in.

I really like Fort Knox's safe with the mechanical lock.

I can certainly understand wanting to get away from the electronics, but if quick access is desired a 3 digit combo wouldn't be a good choice, especially at night.

Take a look at the ones that will work best in your application that use the mechanical push-button lock known as the "Simplex" lock. Consider how and where you want to mount it as some are designed to mount only one way.

You will spend a little more initially, but it will last you many years if not a life time. The boxes are generally made of heavier steel as well.
