Just wanted to let everyone know my experience with a Securam Pro Logic Extreme (PLE) lock and keypad for my Winchester safe (RSC).
I wanted the PLE due to the feature of being both a mechanical and electrical lock setup. With the PLE you can set 2 combos for the electrical portion and 1 combo for the mechanical portion. If you haven't seen the videos for this lock, if the electrical portion dies, you can switch to mechanical mode and open your safe. I bought the lock setup at Blue Dot safes online, but have since found it at mbausa for nearly $100 cheaper so shop around if you want one. I installed the lock myself and used a video from the securam website. The video is excellent except for the part with removing you old electrical lock. The video shows them just pushing off and removing the old keypad, but with the La Gard 3710 I had, the keypad face had to be lifted off and then 2 screws removed. Installation of the keypad and lock and then changing all of the combos took me about 2 hours. The videos on the website take about 30 mins but I had some work to perform on my relocker plate that took some time and I also wasn't in a rush to set a speed record as this was the first time working on a keypad and lock for a safe. Some notable features of the lock is the keypad is lighted when you touch it so you could easily open it in complete darkness if you had too. The mechanical dial is also lighted so that is a nice feature as well. If you open the safe in mechanical mode, the lock will stay open until you spin the dial and spin the wheel on the safe. Hope this review helps anyone that may be interested in this lock set up as there are very few actual user reviews. I have had the lock for nearly 2 weeks and open the safe 2-3 times a day just playing with the lock. There is another lock PLE model out there that had bluetooth that can be used with a phone app to unlock the safe but I am unsure if this could be hacked so I stayed away from that model. Happy Shooting.-Scott |

I've looked at that lock and am really interested in it. Does the manual dial spin smoothly, or does it seem a bit "gritty" when you spin it? The way I figure it, the manual open would mostly just be used as a backup in case the keypad ever died, but the reviews I saw, they seemed a bit rough to spin.
Thanks for the review. |

Mine is fairly smooth. I also use it to "lock" the safe open while I'm at home by inputting the manual combo and leaving it in. I do have a complaint though. When I installed it the light for the mechanical lock wasn't working even after putting in a known fresh battery. I called in to them and they said that I had to buy a whole new baseplate, and that they would reimburse me when they got the other one back. I agreed and the guy sent me a link to buy the new plate, unfortunately it was for the nickel version (I have the bronze) and after trying to email and call them for about 2 weeks to get the correct finish I gave up. Good idea, pretty good quality, not so hot support. |

My mechanical dial spins fairly smoothly as well. The diameter of the lock is pretty big so you can get a fairly good grip on it too.
What drag on the mechanical lock that it does have must be from turning the lock assembly that is behind the door because it had little resistance before mounting it to the door and inserting the shaft that connects the keypad to the lock body. Scott |

I just upgraded my cheap Cannon safe with a Securam Safelogic Xtreme and I like it.
mbausa has them https://youtu.be/QO7rP5p17_4 Be aware it does take some skill to install if you DIY. It's not really difficult if you are ok with drilling a hole and hack sawing the spindle to length. To some people that's a huge problem if they haven't had similar experience. Install video https://youtu.be/IZdCYjeCuwE It can be a hair tricky to set the mechanical combo, but it's the same idea as all other mechanical locks. |
