So I decided to wall off a section of my basement to create a safe room.  Its currently 3 sided exterior walls so I need to just construction one wall to close it off.  My plan is to use 12" block with re bar doweled into the floor, durawall between each course, and bolted wall ties where the new wall ties into the existing walls.  Will also be filling the voids in the blocks with concrete as I go.  I will use a steel security door as a temporary door until I save up and order an actual vault door.  I will leave the masonry opening sized to where I need it for the vault door, and use heavy wooden framing to mount the steel door to now.

Just wanted to see if there is anything I may not have thought about from people that have already done this, or things for me to keep in mind.

What's going to keep somebody from cutting through your 3/4" subfloor and into the vault?

I'm adding re-inforcement to that area as well:

sister the 2x12's

adding additional layer of 3/4 ply

Maybe some expanded metal over this

blocking pieces across the joists spaced tightly

Short of someone taking a chainsaw to the floor above, this should be fairly tough.  Would cement backer board dull the saw chain enough?

Run speaker wire too zig-zagged under all that stuff....(think I read it on here) if someone tires to use a saw to cut through the floor the wiring will gum up the blade.
