1) Run more electrical outlets, looks like you have (1) 2 port outlet...Id have a couple on each wall, if you get a work bench youll need a couple, youll also probably run de-humidifies, lamps , etc etc etc.
2) I probably wouldnt dry wall, itll eat up space, unless you need to run insulation behind it. If you skip the dry wall, id paint / seal the concrete. 3) Id look into some rubber backed carpet for the flooring. 4) put some kinda ceiling up, exposed insulation looks like crap. 5) More lighting, and I would go with all LEDs. You can get 2-3 foot shop lamps that are LED. 6) Id have multi workbench stations, one clean assembly area, and one dirty / cleaning area. 7) small table top parts washer. 8) Gun rack to stand guns up while working on them. 9) Built in gun vice..with adjustable forehand area to accommodate various length firearms Jus curious, why the odd shaped room? I think i wouldve squared it off. |

The shape and bricks of your room make it almost like a bunker which looks cool. I wouldn't cover the bricks unless the aren't very well sealed from the elements. I would cover the ceiling though.
How's the ventilation down there? I don't like cleaning in places with stagnant air. Like the other poster said, you will need some type of dehumidifier, lots of benches, and lots of cabinets. Possibly a full size free standing tool box. You will need music too, just sayin. I gotta have it while I clean my guns. I envy your project. ETA: gotta say your ammo stash is impressive to a poorboy like myself. |
| Drywall using 1" lath strips behind it. That way it won;t take up too much room. Plain bricks look like shit even when their painted. You also don't have enough guns for that room. Send the room to me please or adopt me. I agree with the others. Finish the ceiling and don't skimp on lighting. After all, you are going to show your guns off. Nice project. |

The door opens inwards, right? Don't forget the emergency items, like a honeybucket and some chem lights. LED Flashlights, including one that comes on in a power failure. Water storage. First Aid kit. Blankets. Air mattresses, tent.
Then think about designing for guns... we have a gun room photo thread above. |
| Die-trying, first, thanks for all the input. I've got access to loads of angle iron and more welding supplies than I'd ever need, so the bench ideas are great. Second, we're thinking very similar on the layout. I might try for some type of shelves though in the little nook by the entrance. That will utilize the space efficiently and still leave me the perfect amount of space for two 4x8' sheets of Slatwall. |

I would get your electrical and ceiling done and then i would maybe check on shelving and benches from a "seconds" store, its usually scratch and dent stuff that is new but cheap. I built my benches out of shelving. They are rated pretty high and just cut down the vertical parts to the size I wanted. Because the shelves are adjustable, it makes my bench adjustable. Plus I just toss some 3/4 ply on top and not worry about it. We have a work bench that a couple of the guys built out of 2x4s and an old wooded door, . Works great. I think this one is 2 foot wide but 6 foot long and like 4 foot tall. It started out as an 8 foot tall shelf. I just cut to fit what I needed. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b262/die-tryin/10521352_10203238230609766_987837385_n.jpg One i just built a couple weeks ago. Just some L angle iron. bolt it together, 3/4 plywood I got from work and call it a day. I have zero money in this one. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b262/die-tryin/10529522_10203238168568215_1155613003_n.jpg Hey that's cool.....you put Keymod slots on your workbench. ;) |

Nice project!
I'd make those "dents" in the wall hidden areas with swinging shelves in front. The shelves would make the room look like a normal rectangular room. Build them very sturdy so they seem to be anchored to the bricks. So, in case someone manages to get there the most valuable stuff would still be hidden. |

You're on your own for cabinets and storage, but I was thinking of using something like these when I get around to building my gun room. Just my two cents.
