I came up with an idea that I'm sure has already been thought of, but perhaps some people haven't thought of it.

I tried to put an entry sensor inside a cheap safe I have, but the wireless signal wasn't able to pass through the safe walls.  Oh well, that's okay.  I put the sensor on the outside:

Now, Simplisafe does NOT use UL listed alarm sensors.  I wish they did, but they don't.  One thing UL requires is that the sensor is tamper resistant.  For example, there are wireless sensors out there that will trigger the alarm if they are torn off the surface they are attached to, or the sensor is removed from its back plate. Simplisafe sensors don't have this function

So, why don't I care?  Why would I attach an easily defeated sensor to my safe and tie it into my alarm system?  By the time someone reaches my safe, they will have activated multiple
sensors.  The alarm should be going off.  If it's not, this sensor isn't
going to help.

So, why have this sensor at all?  Well, I get into this safe a lot, and I have forgotten to close the door several times when I have left my apartment.  Now, my alarm will give me a visual and audible warning if I try to set the alarm while the door is open.  Since I always set my alarm when I leave, problem solved!

If you choose to do this, make sure you program the sensor to only alarm in "AWAY" mode.  That way, you can still get into the safe when you have the alarm set to "HOME" mode.  With Simplisafe, all entry sensors default to alarm on HOME and AWAY, because they assume you are using it on an exterior door or window.
