First off let me start by saying yes I did read through the camera stickies first. However I am still looking for a suggestion from the hive.
So here is what I am looking for... I have a 2 story (really a 1 story front and 2 story rear (basement is partially underground)) 1700 sq foot house that I am looking to get exterior cameras on. I have motion detection lights on the front porch and front left corner of house. A sodium light on the rear that lights up all of the rear and a shed in the backyard. Parents own house next door, and retired father stays at home all day, with 1 Sam's club $20 video/audio/IR camera plugged into the back of the TV not recording but running most of the time. So I am looking for something more or less to catch suspicious activity in the area and coming up to the house. I know my budget is low and understand I am not gonna get any amazing license plate or high detail shots... however my budget is as it is, money is tight so I am just looking for something that's more than nothing. I have worked in surveillance in one way or another for 8 years with both IP cameras and analog cameras. I have had much better luck with analog in my experiences but that may just be the application. I haven't done much with repair, install, etc of IP, but have spent a large amount of time with DVR & VCR maintenance and installation of analog cameras...so I have some experience there. Anyways I am looking for a system with a minimum of 4 cameras, with the option to expand. Would be nice to be able to have remote android/pc access but not a deal breaker either way. Not looking for any interior cameras at this time, exterior only. So what do you have in my price range as a suggestion for my needs? Anything? Thanks |

My answer which may not be the solution for you is Blue Iris NVR software and a range of inexpensive IP cameras. We currently have 14 cameras around the property, a mix of IP (ingress protection) rated outdoor IR cameras, a couple PT outdoor dome cameras, a fixed dome camera and a few PT IR indoor cameras. Most are running on wireless, we have a mix of AP's and range extenders. We also have independent IR illuminators for some of the outdoor cameras. |
