I bought a Stack-On safe a couple of years ago. I think it is this model here: http://gunsafeworld.com/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=429

It has been in storage for a year or so and I no longer remember the combination. The good news is that the safe is unlocked and open. The bad news is that I can't use it because I am not able to unlock it if the dial gets turned.

I know that I can submit a notarized form to Stack-On and pay $10 and wait 4 weeks and they will send the combination, but I was wondering if there was an easier way in. I no longer have the original receipt and I never registered it with Stack-On when I bought it.

The safe is open, so I have access to the inside. I was thinking about taking the back panel off of the door and trying to see the back of the lock. I don't know if anything is visible back there though. It is a dial lock and I can't imagine it is a terribly good/expensive lock; This is a cheap safe.

Is there any way of recovering the combination without going through Stack-On?

Cheap Sentry combo locks have three plates with notches to line up.  Something like that should be easy to figure out once you expose it.

This.  There are a few Sentry and Stack On safes that use mechanical locks, but not many.  Wouldn't hurt to pull the door cover and see what's back there.  You'll know as soon as you look if you can figure it out on your own.

Do you still have any tags/stickers/labels on it?

I noted that a local chain store has upc looking tags on the top of each safe, and the tags all contain the combo.

Thanks for the input. The combination was easily found by removing the back panel and watching the dial.
