I am looking to purchase my first handgun, and I need some help on securing it in my room. I am a college student, and I am renting a town house with two other guys. The problem is, that my room is not secure at all. There are two entrances into my room, one normal door that leads to the foyer, and one huge sliding door that leads to the living area. Neither of these doors have locks. My roomies often bring friends over on the weekends and I would not be comfortable with a handgun just in my desk or dresser. Any advice on how I can keep my handgun/ammunition hidden, and secure?
Thanks |
| Sometimes having room mates can cause a lot of stress. If all you are trying to secure is a pistol then I would invest in a small fire safe or a small pistol safe. Once you have it, choose a hidden place that you can put it, on a shelf, in a drawer, etc.... Then use a couple bolts to secure it. This won't stop a determined thief but it will keep your pistol safe if someone comes snooping through your room un invited. Sentry makes a good small fire safe that can be bolted through the bottom and one of those "smart" safes that use the finger combos allows for it to be bolted as well. That's all I can think of for now. Good luck. |
| Keeping it well hidden in a small safe is probably your best bet. Keep it with you as much as possible if your state allows it (I don't know the rules outside of PA regarding ccw... and I don't know how old you are). Keep ammo and any other gun related gear well hidden as well. You wouldn't want to tip off anyone that you do have a weapon for them to steal. |
