I am about to purchase an AMSEC safe (hopefully).

Is there any harm to transporting a safe flat on its back?? I am hoping to pick this up myself to avoid ship cost.

Thanks!

I moved both of mine on their back with no problem.
Having a sheet of cardboard under them makes the safe slide very easy!

And leave the door unlocked during shipping.

Sometimes paying a pro to do it for you is cheaper. Unless you have all the tools to do it yourself. How do you plan to get it out off of the trailer/truck you bring it home on?

My wife (she is lady-like by the way) and I moved an 1,100 pound safe from laying on it's back in the truck to the ground floor.  No problems at all.

Which Amsec? Some of their real safes weigh 3,000 and up. For that, get it delivered and installed by real professional riggers.

But no, there should be no problem laying a safe on it's back, gently...

It's easy. You just slide it to the edge of the tailgate, and ease it forward until it hits the ground. It basically stands itself up.

2 people can easily load/unload 1,000+ lbs that way.

You'd be surprised how easy they load and unload if you go slow and use their balance.  Keeping a sheet of cardboard between the safe and the steel of your truck bed or trailer bed helps a lot!
I also put a 1 1/2" strap around my safe (top to bottom) and that made a handle and a "belay man" hold.
