Can anyone tell me about these?  The website does not list the thickness of the body.  I want to know if anyone has one and what they think of it.  And yes I know it isnt a Fort Knox.  But I have a chance to pick on up cheap and what to know if its worth it.

Safe in question:  Total Defense

I have that exact safe.... IMO you cant beat it for the money.  I would definatly buy another one.  If you want any specific pics of it shoot me an IM and i will see what i can do.

With that size they state on the website and a weight of 530 pounds it can only be sheetmetal. Probably 12 gauge or less. To get the "fire resistance" (with no real rating) they probably just stuck some drywall between the 2 sheetmetal layers...

"UL classified Gypsum Wallboard and Palusol® door stripping are used in the construction of these safes to ensure each safe performs consistently to it’s ETL fire rating. "

UL classified Gypsum Wallboard... I love that one...

So the answer is that it's a cheap double layer sheetmetal cabinet disguised as a "safe" with wallboard between the layers and some fire-resistant weatherstripping around the door. Good enough for kids or a thief that doesn't want to spend any time on it.

Stack-On does make cabinets that is why so many people get confused with that.. but I just picked up a Stack-On Elite 24 Gun Safe and I can tell you it is one hell of a safe.. I was going to go cheap and I know alot of people thing $700 is cheap for a Full size safe but imo they are built just as good as any other safe in the $300-$1000 price range.. I was comparing some Remington's safes and a few other brands and for a bit more money you can get the Stack-On Elite 24 Gun.. And you really need to remember, it's about location of the safe, that lock the safe uses and The Door's the safe is behind.. there are so much people that can bump lock open any door its crazy not to have good thick door's with good locking systems.. I would not buy a gun Cabinet since someone can get into it so easy but others will since no one can even get into there house or at least the door the safe is behind.. but really Stack-On Elite Safe's are pretty good and if  the person robbing your house can get into a Stack-On Elite then they can prolly get into what ever safe you have. main goal is try to stop them from even getting to the safe.. Just to add Stack-On is just a name and the makers of Stack-On also make some of the Sentry line, Browning (Pro Steel), Liberty, Cannon, and others and let's face it they are all made in China. I am not saying all safes are the same at all.. you have your high end mid end and low end of anything and most brands like remington, ect ect.. I just would like to say no matter what you get even if its a cheap walmart cabinet bolt it down and put it behind a good door/lock.

Well I bought it for a couple hundred bucks and for what I got an what I can fit right now I am liking it.  It has bolts on the top and bottom which is a nice feature.  I am happy with the purchase and it will definitely help me relax when I am away from the house.  I know it isnt a super safe but for the money it offers alot.  And it is sure better than my guns being hidden throughout my house.

I really liked this - > "Extra thick door frame and silk screen detail on the door give these safes a more robust look and feel."

Maybe I should just add some silk screen detail to the exterior of my house to give it a more robust look and feel.  No?

I was tured away when the dealer I talked to said the body was 14 gauge and the door was 11 gauge.  Gary

I just bought the same safe(GSXW-528) from Dicks Sporting.  Right now they have it listed at $699.  But I was able to get it for $550.  What I did was get a $20 off $100 coupon from ebay and then I also bought $700 worth of gift cards for $530 on ebay.  I took the gift cards and coupon into Dicks and bought my safe.  It should arrive by this Friday.  It's a very nice safe.

I urge you to go with the manual lock instead of the digital lock though.

Sounds like a good deal, I have the manual lock and have been happy with mine, fits my needs nicely.
