Anyone know when we can expect the release of the Sig MCX?

MCX? I'd like a real date on the MPX at this point.

This is now the official MCX thread!

So based on that thread on Sigforums, there is no current, active, plan to release the MCX to the consumer market. They are "open to it" but right now targeting .mil and police sales.

My guess? A year to 16 months after the MPX is easily available.

I'll be the first in line.

No you won't Aaron, and you know it.

The MCX will see the light of civilian day, but it might be a while. The whole project started out as a competition to replace the AAC Honeybadger with certain units.

I've seen the original LVAW/CSC, and there were pictures posted from AUSA 2012.
This one is a highly modified 516.

It worked great but wasn't as versatile or compact as the engineers wanted and so they changed the gas system from a modified 516 to something resembling the current MCX to some extent. There were a lot of generations and variations. I wish I had taken pictures.

Later they scaled it down for pistol calibers and called that variation the MPX.

Now it not only is an answer to end users looking for the best 300BLK platform, but it was designed to be multi-caliber. I was once speaking to the VP/head of engineering and they measured an ~40% recoil reduction over a standard 5.56 carbine. The thing has no muzzle rise and barely any recoil; It is incredibly controllable on F/A. It is also incredibly efficient with gas and experiences very little derivation in rate of fire between low end and high end ammunition. To see the importance of that look no further than cheap ARs needing their gasports hogged out and their components lightened so they can cycle junk ammunition; although these same problems enhance wear and failure using higher quality ammunitions.

The upper can easily be used on a standard AR and from reading they are working on a folding stock kit. Ban states will love that feature. Originally the HK416 (same lead engineer) was suppossed to be similar, ie: a G36 upper kit that would retrofit onto in-service lowers with folding stocks. In the end HK found it easier to just drop a more traditional piston retrofit on it. So the MCX will be a direct competitor to not only the Honeybadger, but the HK416 within the same types of units.

As I understand, right now they're working on cutting weight and tweaking it for maximum reliability.. It was a bit heavy for what it was and there were no shortages of complaints from the guys working on it.

Now, some of this might change, but this was where everything was at the end of my employment in March. It will be a very high quality gun when released.

Thanks Joe. OK...maybe I wish to be the 1st in line.
