Just bought a Sig 522 SWAT. It is currently in the mail, but I want to make sure I have mags/accessories for it when it comes. I would like to purchase extra factory magazines. Doing some research online, I have read that Sig contracted mag production out to Black Dog. Is this true? If not, how reliable are they? I found a site that has 25 round magazines for about $20 each. I know that isn't spectacular, but they are out of stock for a lower price everywhere else I looked. Thoughts? Here is the link to the magazine I'm specifically looking at:

I have a Sig 522 also. Bought a bunch of Black Dogs from Palmetto. They work great! You might have wait a few days before they ship.

If you want several mags, this is the way to go.
Palmetto Black Dog 10 pack This is what I did for my 522 and have had zero issues with any of the mags. |

I got some Black Dogs for my 522's but I chose the ones with the METAL feed lips...are these cheaper nylon ones any good??? According to Black Dog's website: The only difference between the Nylon feed lip and Steel feed lip is friendly price point options for the buyer on a budget. We have not received a worn out feed lip so we cannot say which has been better- they are both functioning 100%. As far as practicality and real world use, I cannot comment on that yet. |

I have only had the plactic feed lip versions until this past easter when I bought the Nylon feed lip 10 pack. Some of my Sig Sauer marked Blackdogs mags have had over 5,000 rounds each and not an issue. I have enough mags to load a few bulk packs up each range trip so they don't get as much use per mag as they used too.

I have gotten both OEM mags and blackdog mags. Identical except for the markings. Never had a problem with the plastic ones so never saw a need to get the metal lip version. Do yourself a favor and get the mag loading tool. I typically don't use mag loaders with my other guns, but getting all 25 rounds in the 522 mags can be a real pain. Especially if you are loading several. The 522 really likes going through those mags so if you don't want to kill your thumbs loading all the mags get the loading tool. |
