Got my NIB Sig 556 Classic last week before I went to the range I picked up 2 pmags. I got a 20rd and 30rd,both new. Not a lot of ammo on hand but I wanted to put some rounds down range to try it out.I shot a total of 50rds of Hornady 55gr. While shooting the 30rd mag I had 2FTF and the bolt didn't lock the bolt back after the last round was fired. As for the 20rd mag 3FTF and and bolt didn't lock back after the last round fired.Im thinking my Sig don't like pmags. As for the rifle itself I like it very much,I fired it at 50 yards and it hit low and to the left. After 50rds I got it close to hitting on target but my rear sight is almost as far as it can go to the right(is my front sight canted)not sure.
I know it's to early to tell with only 50rds thru it,but a new rifle and mags I had hoped for a little better than this |

I had a similar experience my first time out (thread), but I was using some pretty craptastic ammo. You didn't mention whether the Hornady was .223 or 5.56. If it is .223, I'd recommend upping your gas pressure. I'm going to guess that your BCG isn't moving all the way back when you fire and therefore is not making good contact with the next cartridge or the bolt catch.
There's another thread where this is mentioned, but the general consensus is that the 556 will run PMags just fine. |
| My new SIG556 Patrol was shooting low and left also. The front sight/gas block on mine is canted to the right, so I sent it back to SIG last Thursday. As far as PMags, mine fired using PMags perfectly. Did you clean the rifle when you received it? I cleaned out all the white grease that it is shipped with and lubed it back up with normal gun oil. After working the action some I noticed it was much much smoother than when I received it. I shot 215 rounds on my first range trip with out one single malfunction of any kind using three different types of mags. |
