I shot my 556 at 100 yards today and the results were average at best.  I sighted it in with about 5 shots (previously sighted in at 25 yards first) and then decided to try for groups.  I was getting around 2 inches or so for 5 shots with both 69 grain (SS-109) and 75 grain Wolf gold.  I have other ammo I will bring for my next trip but my main question is how long to allow the barrel to cool between groups?  I didn't allow but maybe 30 seconds if that between groups and a friend suggested that with the thin barrel that could be a problem.  It did shoot 3 shots into .75 inch from a warm barrel but the next two shoots opened up that group to almost 2 inches so it shows some promise.
I normally shoot a bull barrel AR-15 in .223 and several bull barrel bolt actions so I am not real familiar with waiting a long time between groups.  What have you guys found is a good break to allow it to cool?

Thanks for any responses.  I switched to a 4-16x scope for ammo testing but the regular scope is a 1-4x.

Check this link out:

The 550 Sniper the author was using he pulled around 2 inch groups with the "heavy barreled" SIG 550 sniper. I think I'd be pretty happy with 2 inches @ 100 out of my SIG556, but that's just me.

I am hoping to better these results with some other ammo.  I have a bunch of different high quality ammo to try and I imagine one of them will give me a 1.5" group or better.  At least I am hoping so.  I guess I got spoiled from my target AR-15 but it is a different animal entirely.  I checked the targets and I had many 3 shot groups that were 1.4 inches but I guess that is why we test 5 shots and not 3 as the last 2 seemed to open up the group some more.
As for that sweet Sig rifle I saw a picture of one in the Wall Street Journal.  There was a photo of a swiss police officer that was on a roof guarding the Davos conference.  I was wondering what the rifle was and I appreciate the link.  What an absolutely gorgeous rifle.  I am surprised that it doesn't shoot better than it does but it is the most awesome looking rifle I have ever seen.

Well, the SG550 sniper has a heavier barrel profile, so it'll be more accurate than our pencil barrel SIG556's.

Also, let's face it, it's a 21st century AK. 2MOA is pretty good, if you ask me.
