My Sig 556 runs about 97% with PMC Bronze and American Eagle .223 on the normal gas setting.  I randomly have malfunctions where the fired cartridge ejects, and the bolt comes back and hangs on the hammer not coming back far enough to strip the next round out of the magazine.  This has happened about 10 times in 300 rounds fired on the normal gas setting.

I fired about 60 rounds on the open gas setting and it seems to have solved the problem.  Recoil isn't noticeably harder, so it doesn't feel over gassed.  Could this commercial spec .223 just not be hot enough to run 100% on the open setting?

Suggestions?

mine wouldn't cycle PMC reliably either, i bought some mil spec M855, and it runs fine with that, I'm gonna shoot mil-spec for about 1000 rounds and try the PMC later.

I just talked to Sig, the armorer I spoke with said it sounds ammo related and that I'm not going to damage anything by running it on the higher setting with this ammo.
