Can the for-end on a 556 classic be easily replaced with rails or is it attached to the rest of the upper somehow?

Swapi-in railed HGs are available from Samson and SIG, and Troy?

If its even closely similar to the SIG 550, then all you do is take the front take-down pin out and separate the upper from the lower, and the lower handguard will slide backwards and unlock from the upper handguard (then remove it), then the upper handguard moves up at the back and slides out. Very simple, you just have to remove the upper to do it.

Drop in rails should attach the same way as the classic handguards go in, or if you want to go with one of the ones with the full length top rail....
