I'm trying to set up my 556 as a long-ish range varmint gun with some nice glass and a harris bipod/LaRue adaptor.  I didn't notice it much when I was just plinking but now that I'm trying to zero the scope in and taking my time on the trigger pull - I'm noticing that the SIG stock trigger has a crap-load of creep in it AFTER i take up the initial slack.  It just seems sloppy as there is a lot of travel before the hammer finally is released.  Anyone else have this problem?  Or is that just the way it is?

Are there any adjustments a gunsmith can make to the trigger group to get rid of some of that sloppiness and make it more crisp?  Is there another trigger set that will fit the SIG 556 and give it more of a "match rifle" feel.

Any and all suggestions are welcome.  Thanks.

I read one artical that said its like a three stage trigger. The frist was the creep then there was a bit more in a second. Then the final was a break that was crisp, but stiff. Its like the FAL trigger to me. I don't know what can be done for it.

That's a fairly accurate description of what I have.  Its not horrible but not great.  Are there any aftermarket triggers that would fit the SIG?

THE SIG 556 HAS A POTENTIALLY GREAT TRIGGER, WITH A REALLY FAST LOCK TIME. THE TRIGGER IS QUITE EASY TO ADJUST. JOSH S. GETS CREDIT FOR TEACHING ME THIS TECHNIQUE.

REMOVE THE PISTOL GRIP.

BEHIND THE TRIGGER AND UNDER THE GRIP LIVES WHAT CONTROLS THE "FEEL" OF THE
TRIGGER BREAK. WITH MY SIG 556 PISTOL, THE HEX HEAD FITTING THAT CONTACTS THE TRIGGER WAS TOO FAR FORWARD, CREATING TOO MUCH SPRING TENSION ON TAKE-UP. YOURS MAY BE TOO FAR AFT, AS WAS THE CASE WITH MY FRIEND'S SIG 556 RIFLE.

CLAMP THE BRIGHT PLATED NUT ON THE NOW EXPOSED TAKE-UP SPRING WITH A SET OF
NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS OR SIMILAR TOOL.

USING A 7MM OR 9/32" OPEN END WRENCH, ADJUST THE HEX HEAD FITTING THAT CONTACTS
THE BACK SIDE OF THE TRIGGER IN TO THE POINT THE TRIGGER BREAKS WITHOUT
TOUCHING THIS FITTING. THE TRIGGER BREAK IS NOW EXTREMELY LIGHT ... TOO LIGHT!

NOW, BACK THE HEX HEAD FITTING FORWARD, SO IT WILL MAKE CONTACT WITH THE
BACK SIDE OF THE TRIGGER JUST BEFORE THE TRIGGER BREAKS. NOW, IT SHOULD BE MORE LIKE MY ORIGINAL SIG 550 AND 551 I NEVER SHOULD HAVE LET GET AWAY FROM ME ......

Actually, I'm amazed every time I shoot my 556. It has the best factory trigger of any AR type rifle I've ever had. Very very nice for a factory gun. Smooth firm take up on first stage and very crisp second stage release.

Thank you very much.  I'll try that.  Now to figure out how to remove the pistol grip.....

How about removing one of the springs from the trigger/sear? There are 2 identical springs and removing one should make it lighter. Just a thought. Feel free to me if I am out of line.

The proper way to adjust the trigger is spelled out in the armorer's manual sticky in this thread.  It is easy as pie so long as you follow the instructions and the warnings in it.

ETA: MSTN's post is the same procedure.

Thank you for the advice.  that technique was MONEY!  I followed the instructions and then went to the range today.  The difference is amazing, I'm very happy with the gun now.
