Got my 556 Pistol.  Function checked it w/ 100 rds.  Ran perfectly.  I definately want different back up sights.  So while cleaning it, I decided to take off the front sight. It appeared to be a dove tail base.  Since it's made in the states I assumed removal was left to right (from the view of holding the pistol as though you were shooting it).  So I got my Irwin clamp (don't have a vice) and my Glock mat and clamped it down at the gas block on my work bench. Waaaahooooo, that was a chore!!  Much harder than I anticipated.   I had to use a flat punch and an actual hammer.  Tapping didn't do a darn thing, I had to hit the punch with an actual hammer (not my nylon hammer). I hope I didn't damage the dovetail base.  it seems okay to my eye.  Any way of checking?

Anybody else have this experience?  I sure hope that installation of a new front sight is easier .
