Working on getting all my paperwork and local approvals for an FFL before submitting to the ATF and have this question...
Assuming my business is named ABC, LLC with a d/b/a of "Cool Guns"...If I manufacture a SBR, would the engraving on the firearm have to read "ABC, LLC" or "Cool Guns"? I'm asking, because I haven't picked out my business names yet, so I want to make sure that I'm keeping the manufacturing/engraving aspect in mind when selecting them. Thanks! |

pretty sure dba would be fine. For example.
almost ALL the major manufactuers out there are some kind of corp or LLC. but they dont list it on their engraving. usually its a DBA they list. I could be wrong. But im going off what manufacturers put on their own stuff they make. |

Generally a good idea to never do this, as MFGs can have variances to do stuff. As to the OP question, you use what is on your license. but i do understand what you mean. |

My 07/02 is listed with only my DBA.
My FFL application stated XXX XXX, LLC DBA YYYYYY When I received my FFL there is no mention of XXX XXX, LLC and the license name is YYYYYY You wouldn't have any idea I was DBA based on looking at my license alone. I engrave YYYYYY as XXX XXX, LLC is licensed under the name YYYYYY. |

If your license is in the name of "ABC, LLC with a d/b/a of 'Cool Guns'" then add a "trade name" on the license of "cool guns" to be extra safe. Then, you can mark simply as "cool guns." Many manufacturers (especially the major ones) do this. What you know as a brand of a gun is only a trade name on a license in a corporate company name. |
