When I create a UPS label on my account to ship a rifle or handgun I always insure it.
There is always a debate on whether or not the carrier has to be notified that a gun is being shipped.
I know as an FFL I do not have to notify them.
There is also no place on the label making process to type in what the contents are.
UPS policy is to ship it air.
If you don't ship it air and they lose the package do you guys think they would try and deny the claim?

My guess is they would deny the claim.  If you a haven't yet, you might read  this.

From that, under the  "Getting Your Firearm Shipment to UPS"

"When you are shipping a package that contains a handgun, you must verbally notify the UPS driver or UPS Customer Center clerk. "

That page also says handguns must go next day air, but most of the time we do second day air with no problem.

You are not required to mark the package as containing a firearm (and in fact are discouraged against marking it), but you are required to notify the shipper of its contents.
