Correct, they are now made in the U.S.  by FN for Steyr (at least on the U.S.  sold guns)

If you can find (and afford) a new 6th gen 9mm kit those have Austrian barrels.

They can't even import barrel blanks and turn them here? So even the last production ones had fn barrels?  Any difference quality/durability wise?  I'm seriously considering dropping the boat load of cash on one but want to make sure I shop wisely.

The mandrels that FN uses are Austrian. The barrel profile and finish are indistinguishable from Austrian barrels. If the barrels had interarms or GSI on the side with the correct muzzle device, not a person would know the difference.
