Talked with Steyr today and they said they have only seen that issue once or twice in the last ten years.  They wanted me to send in my stock for them to repair it, I am going to tap it back fully in and then flair the end of the rod out to prevent it from moving foward.  If I cannot do it correctly I will send it in.  I guess it was just bad luck I got one that had this issue.

You can't fix it yourself correctly without the rivet recess subassembly tool and the special 60° punch, both made by Steyr and unavailable to the public.

They may still help you if you damage your guide rod or buffer attempting to do it on your own, but why not just send it back to them so they can drill out the rivet point on your guide rod and install a new guide rod???

This is one of those things you send back in and don't mess with.

.....Leave it alone and send it in and let them fix it.

Once you try and fix it and later on  "IF" it fails again ...they are not going to touch it....

I wouldn't even want it fixed, I'd want them to send me a brand new stock instead. One that has never broken to begin with
