What, if any, are the rules here re: discussing the differences between the PS90 and P90? I ask because there's "another" forum that just will not tolerate such discussion/information. This flies in the face of what got me interested in firearms many many years ago, namely the mechanics/engineering. However, I don't want to break the rules here if it has already been established. So... Which is it, information is information or it's "verboten!"?

Are there really any differences aside from barrel length and the fact that one is semi automatic and the other fully automatic?

P90 - select fire NFA item with 10" barrel
PS90- semi auto with long barrel (18" counting the flash hider)

They are mighty fun, hold 50 rounds, and some surprisingly hot ammo is sold by elite ammo or on gunbroker for the FiveseveN/ps90. People try to compare it to the 5.56 round, but this is an inappropriate comparison. It should be compared to 9mm personal defense weapons. It is like a low recoil, high capacity, armor piercing round that inflicts damage similar to a 9mm +p+ round, according to a retired Houston police officer who viewed autopsies using the factory ammo. The elite ammunition, particularly the S4M round, is even more impressive.

I assume the "verboten" info you are referring to has to do with the early PS90 hammerpacks. There really is not much to discuss.

Some early versions had a "safety sear" (or whatever you want to call it) in the hammerpack. That sear (known by many different names, all of which refer to the same function) prevents the hammer from dropping until the gun is in battery.

Seems like not too bad of an idea right? A device that prohibits out of battery discharges.

BATFE didn't and doesn't like it. /story

Receiver is the same, bolt carrier is the same, and early trigger packs were the same.  The difference lies in the stock-sides and fire controls.

I've fired both, and own an SBR.  Couldn't afford to feed the SMG - wickedly fast cyclic rate, but fun as hell!

The 1st and 2nd gen PS90 with original trigger packs will become real collector items in the not so distant future.

The Gen 4 trigger pack will accomplish the same F%#£ing thing as the Gen 1 unless you are planning on breaking the law.

If so...

And the ability of the BATF to put you away for TWENTY YEARS has been well documented.

I assume that the Gen1/2 packs are highly valued by two groups of folks.

1. People who collect stuff that is no longer made or available, especially when its got this sort of "banned" type of reputation.   Same reason some folks pay big bucks for grandfathered open bolt semi auto macs, or G Series FALs.

2. The other group of folks who value these are the ones that want to make an illegal conversion, take it out to shoot in the woods or their ranch and have fun, and then return the gun back to semi-only function and not leave a trace that it ever happened from a mechanical perspective.   Permanently modding a Gen4 pack definitely leaves an intent behind as the pack has obviously been modded.   The gen 1 /2 based PS90s require no modification to the receiver or the host pack.

The line gets crossed on most sites when folks start either talking about how they modded their gun and/or what needs to do done to make it happen.   Some sites want to pretend that Gen1/2 packs dont even exist and almost forbid any discussion of them.

No one is more pissed over the May,19,1986 ban on new transferable machine guns than I am!

And is the ban unconstitutional? HELL YES!

I was a Class III Dealer at the time, I watched prices skyrocket overnight.

BUT, Twenty years ain't worth it.

Go rent one, or if you REALLY want one that bad become a Class III dealer and start selling Title II weapons.

This is what I was referring to by the gen 1&2 PS90 being highly collectable.
