First impressions:

is black, not purple

five minutes to install, including removal of the old hardware

after a few locks/swats only the lower inside corner of the wear pad is showing wear.

helps function in every combination of lock back with either the receiver lock or magwell BHO

I even locked it back on the receiver then folded it and pushed it down to simulate an "oopsie"- no problem

in motion, it is angled down and away from the top rail- I could even possibly mount something with a protrusion to the left side now and operate overhanded

if allowed to move forward with full momentum it will swing back forward to it's stowed position when it hits the stop- if you ride it forward at all it will likely remain open when it comes to a stop

It looks great so far

It does look great. I'm glad I stayed with it(reading). I'm also doing my child's homework and couldn't separate from the great basin desert(stupig geography)!

The purple hue I was getting from my photos were from my camera light.

Glad to see you got one. Sven really did a nice job on this one.

As for your pad it will wear in (break in) after some use. I did get wear right away on the test unit but it did not wear past that after several hundreds of charges and slap homes. Each pad should serve you for quite awhile since every charge of the weapon will not require you to lock back each and every mag change.

Devin actually watched a movie and did nothing but charge (lock back and slap home) his STG the entire movie and the pad was not worn any more than mine which I did not charge it that many times and for that long.

BTW I think Devin's hand got tired by the time the previews were over..... Glad it wasn't me.

I don't even want to know what type of movie he was watching!

Thanks for the review OP, and glad you like it!

We went through several types of polymer and lots of testing on the wear pad, and the one we finally settled on wears like iron but is smooth as silk and gentle as a baby's bottom on the aluminum receiver.  If you actually manage to wear down the pad enough where the bolt won't lock back on the notch, you just rotate the wear pad 90 degrees and you have a fresh corner to use.  If you manage to rotate and wear it out on all 4 corners, you probably will need a new AUG as your current one is probably shot out!

Even if the wear pad does wear out or you somehow lose it during maintenance the Switchback will still operate just fine, it will just bear aluminum on aluminum- it won't hurt the rifle in the short term, and you have plenty of time to contact us for a replacement pad.

+1 on the Switchback. Excellent ergonomics. Now I can fit both STG556s in my airline travel case w/o removing the charging handle as I had to do with the Raptor charging handle. Keeps a compact rifle compact and lessens interference with my Urban Sentry sling.
