Hello all.  Have had my Tavor for a few days and read the manual, great manual by the way.  It was weird to read an in depth, color, legible, and all English operating manual.  I haven't read an all English manual since I was about 12!

Anyway, I am right handed and the right sided 45 degree rail is useless to me unless I want tape switches which I don't.  After reading the manual it seems I can move the charging handle to the right side and move the rail to the left.  I would have to go over the top for the charging handle but that seems a small price to be able to access my light from the left side.  Has anyone done this?  Am I missing anything that I won't figure out until it starts malfunctioning?

Thanks in advance, pictures always welcome.

You can move the charging handle.  But don't or you'll not be able to reach it with the rifle against your shoulder -- unless your arms are a foot longer than mine.  Shoulder the rifle in your left shoulder and see how the bolt manipulates.  Probably doesn't.

There's a couple of guys claiming to be developing a forearm with an integral light much like the Kriss Vector.  I'm holding out for it and an acceptable trigger (but I digress).  For now I just stuck a Surefire X300 on the top rail in front of the dot sight and can press the button easily with my thumb.  An EOTech in this photo.

Agree with Chuck on this one.    If you skip ahead to around the 5:35 mark in my review below you'll see pretty much the same setup in action:

Thanks.  That makes sense.  That is why I asked, I wanted to save myself the pain of figuring this out with a pile of parts sitting around me.

Alright, I just shouldered it left handed to simulate that it was reversed and while going over the top is certainly more awkward it is completely doable within the realm of arm length and strength.  I may do this and report back.

It's nice to have choices.

Interesting idea switching the charging handle sides, but in the manual doesn't it say that the only way to switch the charging handle side is the make the rifle a lefty? I may be wrong but I could have sworn seeing that. As for accessories, I enjoy the stock sights and have an eotech 512 on it. I wouldn't doubt it if somebody will make a tri-rail to replace the front grip piece.

You will have to buy a lefty charging handle. The charging handle is the one piece that isnt reversible.

You CAN switch the charging handle to the other side without changing the bolt to left handed. They are each independent swaps.

I am holding out for the light integrated forearm being developed over on bullpup also.

EoTech 516 on my Tavor (I prefer the 7mm rise) EoTech G33 STS magnifier behind that

Light is set up like Chuck's with a TLR1s on mine.
Light is more than bright enough for carbine work and it's small/lightweight.

According to the Tavor operators manual the cocking handle fits on either side of the rifle.  I've not tried it.
Convert the Cocking Group to the left hand shooter:
a. Disassemble the Cocking Group (see page 65).
b. Reinstall the cocking bar and cocking handle on the right side
according to instructions in Reassembling the Cocking
Group (page 66).
