Latest batch receiver (Sabre dot matrix marking on bottom, Steyr only marking externally, finished by VLTOR I believe), running a Ratworx bolt (AR extractor/ejector), Trijicon SRS, Troy micro BUIS, 20/20 front rail with Tangodown stubby VFG and Viking Tactics surefire in a LaRue QD mount, Vickers sling.  Definitely a hit on the range visually.

Fired about 500 rounds of Winchester white box 55 grain, a hundred rounds or so of mixed M193 and M855, and a hundred-ish Wolf military classic... the Wolf cycled fine on "high" gas setting but short stroked every time on "normal".  Besides the Wolf short stroking on "normal" there were no issues.  I cleaned the rifle before its maiden voyage and lubed with FireClean.

Slower to reload than an AR, and the trigger (while not horrible) was a bit slower for me also.  Getting the mag into the well was more difficult than dropping the empty... I'm getting better though.  With a bit more practice I should be GTG.  Definitely a different beast than the AR but I like it.  No "sproing" but a plasticky "chunk" on firing, kinda like one of those plastic price-tag guns.

Cleanup was a breeze, the piston and plug did carbon up a bit, but inside was pretty clean.  I did find more little brass bits inside the bolt after shooting than with an AR, probably because it's not getting blown clear with each shot like a DI AR... but no carbon buildup at all in the BCG which was nice.

NATO stock is en-route, I'll make a decision on which stock to run after trying both.

Thanks to all on this forum for all the useful posts, you helped steer me in this direction.

why swap in a Ratworx bolt before even trying it with the stock Steyr one?

Because the Ratworx bolt uses easily obtainable, inexpensive AR replacement parts (extractor, ejector, and associated pins and springs) should anything go bad... I'll test out the original at a later date and save it as a spare.

Does anyone else see this as a good thing?

Thanks for the offer on the NATO stock. If I didn't have one en-route already I'd take you up on it.

Also, the questions regarding the Ratworx bolt  have my gears turning... I'm thinking of using the factory bolt and holding the Ratworx in reserve.  I know that Ratworxs' components are held in the highest regard, but the factory Steyr... Well, it's factory Steyr!
