Any one have any side by side pics of the bad nitride bolts next to what a good bolt should look like.
Would like to know what I am truelly looking for.   I did just order a Ratworx hybrid bolt as a spare.
Thanks.

I believe the nitrided bolts were black and the "good" bolts are parkerized gray.

The "shiney" black bolts are nitraded and will most likely fail.

This isn't the first time that I've read about problems with these nitride bolts, but the prior posting (ie, Dave) is causing me some concern.  So is mine below one of the problematic bolts?

I've had this gun (and bolt) for years now.  Had it back in the days when Dave was doing customer service actually.  This is what I use for 3-gun and 2-gun matches.  I shoot at least one of them each month.  I would guess that this gun has easily 1,500+ rounds through it.  Because of the matches where I don't need extreme accuracy nor am I able to pickup the brass, 99% of what I shoot through the gun is Wolf Military Classic 55 grain FMJ.  That'll give you some background that this is not a safe-queen.

I just closely inspected my bolt (ie. a little more closely than usual), and I see no signs of a crack.  Is crack formation what is expected with these bolts if they are indeed prone to breakage.  Also, is there a particular place that I should really focus for looking for such a crack.  Hopefully, I'm just one of the lucky ones and I got a "good" nitride bolt.  If anyone has a picture of a cracked nitride bolt, I'd appreciate taking a look.  PM me if you don't want to post the picture..

Thanks...

Usually with those bolts it will break very soon after you get them, if they hold up and are in good condition such as yours then you wont have any problems with them so you should be in the clear right now. If it does break just order one from ratworx but since you had the gun for several years now than you wont have anything to worry about.

Thanks..  You know I really didn't notice until I wrote the above post, but for a bolt with this many rounds through it that nitride must be doing a pretty darn good job.  The picture actually makes it look a little more worn than it actually is.  Some of the shiney spots that you see are just from the camera, but are actually still glossy black.

The E-4 split at the range today. No damage to the gun that I could see, but then again Microtech can't be seen either. I've been trying for two weeks to get an RMA number for the magazine catch on another E-4. Microtech won't answer the phone at either the sales office or the repair center. All e-mail has gone unanswered too. Good thing I had a spare Ratworx bolt. By the way Ratworx picks up on the second ring and has the parts and the expertise. I'd dump both of my E-4s if it wasn't for Ratworx.
