Hello All,

I have a left eject Aug A3.  Love it.  Just completed another course with it.  I t ran like a top as usual.  I traded a PTR32 which was too big for me for a TPD AUG.  I have some questions and hoping for some very specific answers.  Would rather not have speculation, but if you know, I'll be very grateful.

Currently I am using my Aug A3 as a CQB carbine.   INow that I have both a TPD and an Aug, my goal is to convert one to a DMR (using an existing 20 inch barrel I have laying around) and leave one as an up close and personal rifle.   I haven't messed with either gun yet and I"ll start playing with them this week:
Questions:

Will the TPD barrel barrle fit the Aug A3?  Its 1/8 and fluted, so if it will work, I'd like to use it.  It currently is wearing a novesky flaming pig, which i'll take off at some point.

Is the TPD barrel a good barrel?  Better than that Saber barrel?

Will the TPD accept a 20 inch aug barrel?

Will the TPD accept an Aug stock?

Will the TPD accepet an Aug left handed bolt once its in an aug stock?

Will the TPD nato trigger pack fit in an Aug stock?  (it has a killer trigger, so if it does, I'd like to keep it.

Has anyone shot a TPD versus an Aug A3 for accuracy?

My overall impressions of the TPD are very favorable.  The action is much easier to cycle than the Aug.  The trigger is excellent.  It has a nice side rail  as well.

thanks for the info.

Is the TPD barrel a good barrel?  Better than that Saber barrel? Don't know this, won't speculate.
Will the TPD accept a 20 inch aug barrel? Yep. See my note at bottom
Will the TPD accept an Aug stock? Its already an AUG stock, that is where TPD got them from.
Will the TPD accepet an Aug left handed bolt once its in an aug stock?  Yep.  The Bolt that is in there is a Steyr Bolt
Will the TPD nato trigger pack fit in an Aug stock?  (it has a killer trigger, so if it does, I'd like to keep it. Not sure.  I think there is an issue with the bolt release, but don't know if it will prevent function.
Has anyone shot a TPD versus an Aug A3 for accuracy?  Sure they have, but I haven't so I'll leave it to someone else.  I know sgtlmj owned both...
My overall impressions of the TPD are very favorable.  The action is much easier to cycle than the Aug.  There is a reason for this.  TPD removed one of the hammer springs.  This is to make it easier to cock, and Kent/TPD thought that two springs was redundent in semi-auto use.  Pete Athens did mention that he thought this was a bad idea as it might screw up the timing, but thus far I have not seen any problems from it reported.  The trigger is excellent. Again, this is due to the removed hammer spring. It has a nice side rail  as well.
thanks for the info.
My answers in red...  Just remember that because a TPD has imported parts, it is subject to 922(r) also...

Sooo, first update:

The barrels all interchange (USR, A3 and TPD barrel).  That is the good and easy part.

I put the TPD reciever into the aug stock.  Tight fit.   It stopped about a quarter of an inch shy of flush. bracing the stock I could push it in with some force.  I could not however, push the reciever lock through.  I started to tap it through but it seemed to require too much force.  Stopped and returned all the parts to their original receivers.  I'll checked with Pete Athens, but i"m wondering if anyone has any other idea.

Thanks for the answer above.  I appreciate it.

I own both.  My tpd  is a little more accurate than the AUG a3, but not by much.  I have swapped barrels between the two and they both worked fine.  The tpd is beautifully made.  If I remember correct the early barrels were made by wilson.

I bought an OD AUG stock for my TPD. There are some plastic parts next the ejection port that need to be filed but it is very hard to reach. I filed them, and got it to lock, but gave up when the action was dragging on something. Pete sold me the stock and said he would fit it, but I just never got around to sending it in. I either need to sell it or send it to him.

This thread is relavant to my interest as I just picked up a TPD AXR.

Does anybody have a link to a disassembly video. I found one but it did not explain how to break down the bolt. The gun is used and I would like to clean up the extractor that looked dirty.

My rifle came with no manual or materials.

For those having problems installing a replacement Steyr Stock, did you buy the Steyr Nato stock (As sold by PJ & at the Steyr website) or did you buy an original AUG (proprietary mag) stock?

Any armory courses or bullpup specifc training courses out there?

Any info would be appreciated.

I think you'll find that the AUG receiver will fit into the TPD stock but not vice versa...

I believe Kent modified the Steyr mfg AUG NATO stock that is used on the TPD slightly.  You might be able to figure out how and where he did this by comparing the two stocks side by side...

Hope this helps.

Did this company go under? I used to keep tabs on the AXR and then it sorta disappeared off the grid, I was thinking of getting one.

Yes it did. Unfortunately timing was not on it's side as MSAR & Steyr were coming out with their AUG rifles at the same time.

Kent needed to ask a few bucks more for his AXR.  The AXR is basically a Steyr Aug with a higher end Milled Receiver. It uses better than 90% imported Steyr Aug parts.

Bottom line,,

Steyr came out with their US A3.  Online dealers are selling the A3 at below retail at under 2K. There was no way that TPD could manufacture their gun and still make a profit.

He was also at the mercy of U.S Customs and Steyr itself for his supply chain.

I've got both the Steyr A3 and a TPD AXR. I really like the idea of being able to use M16 magazines, so I bought one of the stock/foregrip/trigger pack kits from CDNN. It's pretty easy to modify the NATO AUG stock to ensure it fits. If you already have an A3 or AXR it will be very obvious what needs to be filed/dremel'd to have a stock fit. I also bought a few US parts from TPD when it was still around so that I would ensure 922r compliance.

If you're going to use a NATO stock without a US trigger or other US parts, use US M16 mags and I think you'll be okay for 922r. It's been a while since I last checked the parts count so maybe someone else can chime in on what the US parts on the TPD AXR and the AUG A3. My brain is telling me that's why I ordered them from TPD... but honestly I don't remember.

In closing... If you buy the CDNN kit, I don't recall it coming with a buttplate or pin. I'm pretty sure I had to buy those separately to have spares.
