I have a MSAR STG-556. It has about 200 rounds through it. I've shot steel case with no problems but today I loaded some IMI M193 in a 30 rd mag and it shot fine for the first mag. When I went to load the 2nd mag full of IMI, I could not get the gun to chamber a first round. It just kept deforming the bullets as it was trying to chamber them so I quit. I tried loading it while the gun was in a vertical position and again in a horzintal position but it just kept bending up my bullets and not loadinga first round.
Any suggestions? |

I'm not a fan of the MSAR rifle.
Nothing against MSAR as a Company or their firearm, I have no experience with them. I didn't even think twice about purchasing my A3 it was only $200.00 more money than the MSAR. That said, I wouldn't even think of running surplus steel cased ammo in my A3 or any other firearm of mine besides my AK's. Damn that Wolf shit. I broke the extractor on my Sig pistol, afterwards it took me forever to clean it with less than one hundred rounds fired. |

Wow, Dukpt, that was really helpful!
To the original poster: Have you verified that the bore and chamber are free of obstruction? Also, is the bolt damaged in any way? Finally, is the trunion at the rear of the receiver where the bolt enters the receiver securely attached? |

Finally, is the trunion at the rear of the receiver where the bolt enters the receiver securely attached? I did not specifically check for obstructions between mags. If the bolt was damagaed, it was done today on the first magazine full. If the trunion is not attached properly, it just came loose. Here is the history of the rifle. I bought it brand new, I pulled it apart and lubed it well and shot 100 rounds trouble free of federal 223 brass case. The second outing I shot about 60 - 90 rounds of Brown Bear steel case, again with no failure to load, fire or eject. Today was the third outing. I shot 30 rounds of IMI m193 with no trouble. then I loaded the same magazine with another 30 rounds of the same ammo and couldn;t get anything to load no matter how hard I tried. That's all that's happened. |

Man, How in Gods name could you be asking such questions with a firearm that has only had 200rd fired? Clean your rifle up, gas piston etc. Purchase some HQ ammo and go to the range. Post back in the am. |

Sounds like a misfeeding problem... It is possible to get stuck cases when switching back and forth on steel and brass cases, but what you're describing isn't a stuck case obviously.
When you say bending up the bullets, what exactly do you mean? Is the bullet being pushed back into the casing, is the casing itself getting bent, bullet being twisted at an angle? I had a 9mm AR that had some magazine compatibility issues that caused the bullet to be set back during feeding, so perhaps the mag was bad? Was the magazine locked in snugly? I had a similar problem with my FS2000 when I neglected to seat the mag all the way. Strip your gun and take a look at the feed ramps. You should be able to see brass/copper marks from where the rounds are feeding, and the tips hitting something? Possible for pictures? |

Hmm, seen this before with misjoined stocks in the past, but not where folks didn't have bent bullets right away. Having put 200 rounds through it fine and then having the issues is a bit of a mystery to me. If the bolt and the trunion look fine and you've clean them up good with the mag secured and it's bending bullets than I'm not sure. Oh, and I shoot Brown Bear steel cased through my STG all the time. It's affordable my extractor has held up to it well and frankly it gets me more rounds of practice in per month than I otherwise would. Nothing wrong with steel cased ammo folks. |

| Got it home, took it apart and figured it out. Nothing to it really. There was an obstruction which I could not see until I too kit apart. Looked like part of a primer. I loaded up a few mags and they all loaded and cycled fine so looks like I am in the clear. I'm glad because I really like this gun. It's weird because when I used to read about these guns on here, everyone was enamored with them. Now it seems like the popular thing on here to do is beat up on these guns. |

Me 3! http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq166/beerswimmer/IMGP0242.jpg Make sure that you try your gun with non-MSAR mags. Mine are FTF machines. Pmags work 100%. Pmag doesn't make an stg-556 mag do they? |
