There are 2 basic models of the MSAR rifle.  One is the STG-556, this model takes AUG pattern magazines and is generally cheaper than the other version.  They have different rail heights than the other as well.  Right now you can find brand new rifles for >$1000 and magazines are relatively inexpensive.  If you want good 42 round mags, this is the model to choose.  STG-556s come in a number of different "generations" which all have different, minor changes to them.  The current gen is Gen 4.  Most rifles still available from manufacturers are Gen 3 or Gen 4 as far as I know.

The second model is the "E4."  E4s have a lower rail height than the STG, but if you purchase one with the optic, it will be slightly higher than an STG w/optic.  The E4 takes AR15 pattern magazines.  These can be had in the $1400 range.

I opted for an STG, because I like the AUG pattern magazines.  I consider magazines to be the weak point of the AR15, and I didn't want to buy a completely different rifle that took them.  I think the MSAR rifles are excellent quality and value.  Their customer support is paralleled by none, except maybe LaRue.  Their response time now may be off, because they've recently moved their whole operation to another state, but believe me, it's not something I'm worried about.

The largest "problem" with the MSAR rifles is people reporting issues such as failure to feed or to run properly before breaking them in.  Out of the box they are very tight, and they take around 500 rounds to become broken in and completely reliable.  This must not always be the case as some folks regard theirs as 100% out of the box, but for most people they require some break in time.
