How do I remove the gas block from the barrel on my MSAR? I need to rethread the barrel and the gas block will not pass thru my lathe's spindle bore.

If I recall they said it was sweated on.  meaning all you would have to do is heat to soften the solder then remove. i'm not sure though, as i never have removed an e4 gas block.

I'd make some type of fixture to hold it before I unsweat it, that's too much work. If it is screwed on, I'd like to just remove it.

It is not threaded.  It will be very difficult to remove and replace.

Dave - my gunsmith mentioned the same issue when I asked about cutting and rethreading.  Do you have any other ideas or suggestions for how to get around the lathe constraints?  How did you cut and rethread your STG barrel?

I will have to open up my action truing jig in this case, it was sized for a Rem 700, not the MSAR gasblock.

IIRC ADCO fireamrs has the ability to thread MSAR barrels and has done a couple.

I would just send it to ADCO for a cut and thread.  They do a great job for a very reasonable cost in my opinion.

I would not remove the gas block. Even if you managed to get it off in 1 piece, to put it back on correctly you would require a fixture (it has to orient properly to the lugs and be the correct distance from the chamber). The gas block is heated up just enough to expand over the barrel, and then during cooling it sets permanently in place. to take them off, we cut the gas blocks off.
