I had to sell my AR to pay my taxes this year but I will soon be able to replace my loss with something else.  At the moment, I've got a built lower and I was thinking of putting a 20" chromed upper on it and calling it a day.

However, I might feel the MSAR E4 calling my name.  I have a few questions.

What is the muzzle blast like on the 20" E4?  One thing I never did like about the AR carbines was the way the muzzle blast was so harsh if you needed to shoot without earpro.  Is the 20" MSAR more like a 16" AR or 20" AR on this count?

What kind of accuracy will the E4 deliver compared to a 20" AR without a free float handguard?

I'm also paying off a Trijicon TA33 I have on layaway next month.  Has anyone used a TA33 with an E4, and does it work well?  Will the factory TA33 AR-15 flat top mount work, or would it be too tall?

What twist rate does the E4 barrel use, and is it chrome lined?

Thanks for listening to my dumb questions

can't speak for the 20", but i do know that i would NOT enjoy shooting my 16" without EP... it's painful enough to stand a few feet back while my buddy shoots it.

The accuracy was pretty damn impressive for a 16" rifle without freefloating. At 50 yards, i got .6" or better groups with good ammo... 1.5" with wolf crap. At 100, i was pushing 1.5" with FMJ white box ammo. 3" or so with wolf...

runs like a clock, FAR more fun than any of my AR's and i'd much rather have this gun for any scenario out to 300 yards. With a light mounted, it is a PERFECT CQB weapon, or home defense gun.

1) I never found muzzle blast objectionable on my 16" STG's but adding a Levang compensator (which channels all the muzzle blast forward, see pic below) has made it more pleasant to shoot, especially for those standing nearby.
2) I haven't shot any of my STG's for group size but the 300m gong is doable offhand all day if I do my part.
3) IIRC Dave from MSAR has a TA33 on his STG and loves it. Since the E4 optic rail is the same height as a flattop AR the TA-33 flattop mount should work fine.
4) 1:8 and yes, it is chrome-lined.
HTH...
