Outside temp: 10f
Ammo: Fed XM193 and a mag of Win Q3131A
Mags: Pmags in E4 Stock
          30rd STG556 Mags
Malfunctions: FRICKIN ZERO

I love it.

I bought this as an OD E4 optic gun (16" barrel) and got a used black STG556 stock from Dave.....figured I'd have the best of both worlds.

After an initial cleaning at home I went to the range and fired 120rds of XM193 using the E4 stock and Pmags. The factory optic was hitting minute of pieplate at 50yds which is plenty good enough for me until I have time to fine-zero it. The glass is VERY clear and target acquisition from low ready was nice and quick. While not a true 1x CQB optic I think that it is very functional and well made. I'd like to try a variety of optics on it eventually but I'm glad I ordered the optic version to start out with. I'm planning on getting an E4 optic rail so I can try out my 1.5-5x20 MRT.

I was wearing hatch gloves but found the trigger to be pretty damn good for a bullpup. Worlds better than my FN's triggers.

After that, I switched over to the STG556 GenIV stock and fired an additional 90rds of XM193 and 30rds of Q3131A using the STG556 amber 30rd mags. Again, no malfunctions and the trigger felt about the same between the two.

Recoil was minimal and ejection was consistently rear/right.

I'm extremely happy with this gun after my first range outing.

Thanks Dave!

You are the man.

Any preference?

Mags lock in a bit easier with the STG556 stock but not enough to choose it over an E4 IMO.

I got the E4 version originally because I wanted the tall optic and I've been accumulating AR15 mags for the last 15 years or so and have cans and cans of them.

I got the STG556 stock more for fun than utility......simply because I think it looks more "AUG-Like"...as do the magazines.

Now I need to get a few 42rd mags.

ETA....as far as the mag release differences in the E4 version.....theres really only three extra parts. the pin that holds the catch in...the catch itself, and the spring. I don't see it being an overly complicated mechanism.
