Is it possible to remove the VFG?

You wouldn't want to.

Yes, theoretically it can be removed, although once removed I am pretty curious to know what you plat to hold on with your offhand when shooting?  Are you trying to mount some sort of rail system?

The VFG allows you to remove the barrel, pretty hard to do without it mounted.

If you aren't aware, you can pull down on it against the spring pressure, and then rotate forward to use something akin to the horizontal hanguard on many rifles.

To remove the front grip:

Pry up one side of black bottom "cap"

capture spring that holds bottom of cap

pull up on the spring, remove the cap

remove the c clip on the pivot pin and remove pin

For real! He needs to make some 42 rounders to send off to RatWorx for me.

Ah hell, I have two of these sitting around. Thought I would snap a couple of pics for anyone to see what is inside. Hope this helps someone out.

I was reading an article on Steyrs site that discourages the shooting of the VFG up and with your hand on it. I have not tried it. Any personal experiences out there ?

The article that was in SWAT earlier this year mentioned that you shouldn't shoot with the handle folded up because it put your hand close to the gas vent.  The author went on to say that the gas is able to destroy mechanic's gloves.  Also, he advises against choking up too much lest you burn your hand on the gas cylinder.
