I mentioned this in another thread in a rant, but I didn't want to take that thread off topic so I thought I'd start a new one.
The FNH F2000 was modified to fit the request of the Slovenian military in order to get that contract for 6,500 rifles. Now I would guess that if FNH could import more rifles and through economy of scale sell each at a lower price point they could easily sell 3,000 to 5,000 rifles a year and maybe even more year after year after year. So why the heck do they seem deaf as a post to the requests of civilians here in the United States? I think there is a clear consensus that we'd like to see an FS2000 that could accept polymer magazines. Can't be that hard to redesign the stock to accept them. What about the barrels? From what I understand threading the FS2000 and adding a flash suppressor would not put them over the parts count of 922r. So why not do it? They could come down to a 16" barrel and still have a rifle that was over 26" long so why not? How about the tri-rail? We saw the cool pics of it at SHOT and seems they must have old ladies manufacturing them since only a handful have been imported to date. Now people are on waiting lists for the tri-rail so that should maybe clue them in on the fact that if the imported more they would sell more. I'd love to see an FS2000 with a 16" barrel that could accept aftermarket Flash Suppressors right out of the box and polymer magazines with a tri-rail that didn't require connections to buy. I was looking at the new Magpul Angled Fore-Grip (AFG) and thought to myself "that would look pretty sweet on an FS2000. I want to get one, but I'm not going to buy one if FNH doesn't make some changes and I don't think I'm alone. I could honestly get passed the lack of a bolt hold open and release or having to flip the lid to see the chamber if they did a few things that wouldn't be rocket science hard to do to improve the FS2000. |

Ok, just though I would condense this into a list format:
~Affordable replacement parts ~Fix the charging handle problem ~Thread the barrel+flash suppressor ~Polymer mags (possibly drop free) ~Tri rail version with vertical foregrip, or at the very least fairly priced available tri-rails Does that cover it? |

If FN could sell 3k-5k FS2ks, how many civilian legal G-36s do you think HK could sell? Loads. It's amazing that these EU companies will do back flips over mil leo contract for a few thousand rifles and somehow put the largest firearms market in the world on the "pay no mind" list. I mean we buy a lot of firearms here in the U.S. just ask MSAR.

Nice thought but I doubt it will ever happen. Changing the rail height is easy compared to a whole new stock. I just dont get the polymer magazine must have so many people seem to be possessed by. the USGI with a magpul follower is the shizzle. I know I know, everyones gotta have pmags....
I could care less about a bolt hold open, but since we are dreaming I want an f2000 with launcher! |

HK could give away their G-36 for a quarter on the dollar and I wouldn't give my money to them. Back in the 1990s when I had my FFL I encountered the HK ego at a couple trade shows and both the US and German employees were a bunch of self important ego driven clowns. That and I think their recent stuff has all the ergonomics of a brick...but that seems to be what a certain market segment wants adnd I 'm surprised that they're not catering to it. There's a ton of money to be made. But that would mean dirtying themselves by selling to mere civilians... |

Unfortunately the German government would be opposed to such a thing. They only want their gun manufacturers to sell "sporting rifles" to the unwashed masses. You could (at one time) get a semi G-36 in Canada, but once the German government found out that a handful of semi G-36's, that were "intended" to be sold to Canadian LE agencies, were instead sold to civs, that supply was cut off. This is the same thing that is driving the H&K decision to design uppers for their semi 416s that can't be interchanged with regular AR uppers. Not that they mind, it just means they get to sell more complete rifles. |
