Not that I'm worried about it, but just curious if anybody had any tech issues and had to deal with their tech support? Who will be handling warranty repairs in US? Is it SDI or Steyr Arms? My short experience with Steyr Arms suggests that they don't know much about A3 save for packing and shipping them to dealers...

Your rifle will go to Steyr Arms Inc. as they have the various parts there and that's one of the main reasons they moved to their bigger building in Trussville and hired those extra folks. Talk to Jeff. I'm sure they've been trained by Steyr and I know some of the additional folks they hired on used to work for GSI that provided warranty service back in the day for Steyr.

Good info, thanks for clearing this up.
BTW, do you know anyone in Steyr Arms who can answer questions about 922r compliance of the new A3? I was trying to contact them a few times, but never was able to get an answer. Do they have a separate tel.num. for tech support? -albertr |

I'm guessing the guys at SAI are not knowledgeable enough on the AUG to answer the question or either they don't want to answer the questions?? up |

Certainly, not every individual in every organization can know everything. I see nothing wrong with you being referred to Pete as he works with Steyr. |

I'm pretty sure there must be somebody knowledgeable, might be a matter of finding the right person. Unfortunately, people who picks up the phone there although very nice, don't seem to be technical.
I think since they want to stay behind their product and look professional, they should not try to "outsource" their tech support to PJ's, unless he's on their payroll. -albertr |

WOW. Part of this whole deal should have been them flying over folks to Austria like they did for their other firearms a few years back to learn the A3. |

Could it be just a transitional thing when a new company brings a new product to market (and also outsources its final assembly to third party)?
I might be wrong, but I hope it all will mature sometime (hopefully soon).. So far, I'm very happy that they managed to get A3 out of the doors. Hopefully, the rest comes with time too. What they really need to do right now, IMHO, is to improve communications. I.e. get some knowledgeable employee(s) to monitor internet forums and spread accurate information about their products, more like MSAR already does. That would help everybody. -albertr |

Sabre Defence doesn't even have anything on their website but a news letter saying they are making aug a3s and pete athens is an aug expert and a titan in the American aug industry.. i would believe pete over most people on aug issues |

Nope. But if they're going to send folks to Pete Athens when they have questions about their Steyr AUG A3 maybe they better cut Pete a pay check then every pay day. I mean come on. You call the company that represents the rifle and is the only place where you send it for warranty service they should be able to answer questions. Not pass you along to a dealer even if said dealer is Pete. I mean if that poster is right and he had a question not about price, but a question regarding an issue or some warranty deal or function/part question and they say call "Pete." That's a problem. They say on their website that they are backing ALL Steyr products now ever made. I almost don't really believe it. I mean I know Steyr has in the past done a pretty good job about training their people. I also know they've got people that used to work for GSI down there now working for them and I assume some of those folks had experience with the early AUGs before the ban. I mean the quality of the people doing warranty service has NEVER been an issue with Steyr. Not once. They've always had good knowledgeable people doing warranty work (news and info on various dates and products has always been poor though). The issue Steyr has had in the past has been with keeping spare parts on hand for warranty service and that's not suppose to be a problem now or any time soon since I'm told they imported a literal boat load of parts. I'm telling ya I feel pretty confident they had Jeff and others at SAI spending time with the A3 and working on it. If not than that's a serious problem they better remedy. |

Maybe they better cut pete a paycheck because you say so? Before you go and assume Pete is just a dealer, you may want to find out what his relationship is with Steyr. Whether he should get a paycheck from Steyr should be more of a concern for Pete and not you wouldn't you say? Quoted:

Not pass you along to a dealer even if said dealer is Pete. Nobody asked about warranty service. Whether the place you call is "the only place where you send it for warranty service" has no relevance. You often tend to go into "run ons" about things unrelated probably with the intent to add drama to your cause. Jack was asked a question about 922 compliance (I know, I spoke with him) and he did not have the answer and directed the customer to someone who would. There may possibly have been someone in house who had the answer but they may not have been available at that very moment who knows, but for whatever the reason, Jack directed the customer to call Pete. Now, aside from your beliefs and concerns about Pete getting paid by Steyr, what is wrong with Jack giving a customer the phone number of someone who would be able to answer their question whether it be another phone extension at Steyr, a phone number of another building owned by Steyr, or pete's phone number so long as it was getting the customer their answer? |
